Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Not ovulating after a missed misacarriage?

I had a miscarriage 9/8/08 at 10 weeks so had my D&C on 9/9/08.  We waited 1 cycle before we started trying again like the doctor said to do and nothing has happened yet.  This month I just started tracking my BBT but I have noticed I have really had NO CM since having that D&C.  Is it possible that I may not be ovulating?  I am almost 33 and not sure how much longer I should wait before going back to the doctor with concerns.

  • Are you currently charting? If not I would suggest charting using www.fertilityfriend.com as you can actually see if you are O'ing or not (and print off charts and bring them to your doctor if you are having problems still). Also there's a great book out there - Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Hope this helps!

  • It is definitely possible not to ovulate after a m/c, but I wouldn't go by CM alone to judge that. Your body can change in all sorts of ways, and you may have less CM but still ovulate. Can you tell by your temps whether you ovulated?

I'm actually picking up TCOYF at the libarary today to reread... I remember that it had a section on TTCAL so I'm eager to go over that section.

  • I have very little CM (I started TTC right after I went off the pill, so I'm sure that contributed) so I have to go by temps. That's that only way I can tell. Well, that and the ripping O pains.

  • This month is my first month of tracking my BBT and based on previous cycles I should see my temp go up in the next couple of days.  If it does not go up then I guess that could mean I may not be ovulating?

Cycles can vary alot too, especially with stress.  It's possible that even if you don't ovulate around when you normally do that you still will eventually.  I'd keep charting...

  • i would stick with the charting and maybe start using an ovulation kit if you're worried. i had the same issue after my m/c and it turns out i was ovulating a full week later than i normally did before the m/c. i m/c in august and when we started trying again in nov, i was convinced i wasn't ovulating. once i started charting and using the OPK in dec, i realized that my cycles were just off. i got pregnant that month. good luck!

Well, you could have a delayed ovulation too. But if you don't see a temp shift before you get your next period, you can probably figure it was an anovulatory cycle for you.?

  • I agree w/ everyone that you should chart for at least a few months. However, I would also try OPKs. My cycles were totally off after having DD, and charting wasn't working so well- my dr. said my temps were all over the place so I should use OPKs. The 2nd cycle I used them we got pg (1st cycle I never got a +, so don't get discouraged if your cycles vary in length). I'm just now starting to chart again, and I'll be using OPKs when we're ready to TTC in the next couple of months. Best wishes!

  • I had a missed m/c in June and didn't ovulate for 3 months.  When I finally did, we miraculously caught the egg and got pregnant again.

During those three months my fertility signs were messed up, esp. my bbt.  My CM seemed to be missing too, although when I did ovulate I had two days of EWCM which clued me in.

Ovulation can be messed up for months after a m/c.  I'm sorry - it sucks.  Given your age, I doubt your doc would do anything.  I am 37 and when I had my 3 month "dry spell" the doc told me to give it 6 months.  If nothing changed, then I should come back in.  Luckily, two weeks after that conversation my ovaries woke up.  I hope yours will too - very soon.

P.S.  I'm back in that boat again, so I feel your pain.  I really do!
