Stride Rite shoe sizes different???

Hey ladies! DS for awhile now has been wearing some little boots I got him at Payless that were size 4W. When I've felt his toe he's had room to grow, but not much more recently. Since he started walking 2 weeks ago I figured its time to get him a good pair of walking shoes. We headed to Stride Rite today and when they measured his feet the larger of the two was a size 6, but she recommended getting a 6.5 to give him some room to grow. Is it just me or does that just sound BIG for a 15 month old???

Re: Stride Rite shoe sizes different???

  • My DS started in his size 6's at about 15 mo.  He's  19 mo. now and he's starting in his size 7 today.

  • DD was a 6 at that time and I just switched her to 7's and she's 22 months.?
  • Doesn't sound too big at all!  Paige at 15 months was in a 6xw - and she is a GIRL!  Sounds like he is right on!

Don't feel bad.  The first time we went to Stride Rite, DD was wearing too small shoes also, and I had no idea. I think I had her in size 4 sneakers and I think I got her size 6XW.

  • DD is 15 months (just about) and we just had her measured at stride rite.  she is 4.5, they said similarly that we should get 5's for room to grow.  but she has tiny feet!  and we also had her in too small shoes before that, in like 3.5/4.  apparently they grow like every 3 months.  and those tiny shoes are EXPENSIVE!

  • Hmm.. I don't know about the size specifically, but their sizing seems to be right on. I just had DD measured at Stride Rite at a 4 & 4.5 (her feet are different sizes) and she's in 6-13 mo Pedipeds.. I read on the website that that = size 4-4.5, so right on! Maybe the Payless shoes were just off on size. It seems like that's a large size difference and I'm sure you would have noticed if he was uncomfortable! It's probably just the brand that ran large or something, don't feel bad :)

  • i think ds was 13 or 14 months when we took him to stride rite and one foot was a 5.5 and the other a 6 so we went with a pair of 6.5 wides.
  • Not really.  DD is in a 6 now and that was just shy of 18 mos (and probably needed a 6 a bit before that).

  • Another "bad mommy" who had her kid in shoes that were too small.  He was in a 4 wide, and he needed a 5.5 triple wide.  He's now in a 6.5 at almost 17 months.
