i'm a NICU "BUDDY"

our nicu has a "buddy program". ?it's a volunteer program that matches current nicu moms with nicu mom's who've been through the process (dad's too, but there aren't that many of them). i got my first buddy assignment last night. ?she has 26 week boys who had IUGR and were 1 lb 9 oz and 1 lb 2 oz at birth. ?i hope i can be a support for her. ?please keep her and her boys in your prayers.

That's really neat. I wish ou NICU did something like that.  I would love to be a "buddy".  I will keep her family in my prayers.

Ditto KellyMichelle, that is really neat.  I would totally volunteer if ours did that.  I know it will be very helpful to that mom to have you to talk to.

You are always comforting in your posts on here so I am sure you will be a good support system for this parent as well. ?I see you are from NJ...do you mind me asking which hospital? ?I am also from NJ and wish our hospital did something like this!

I too would love to know what NICU this is a part of! I am a NICU nurse (and lurker....I love hearing parents views on things! Helps me "understand" what you guys are going through!) and would LOVE to institute this at my hospital!?

That is awesome.  Im currently a NICU mom and would love to have a buddy program like that. Im going to ask this morning if my NICU has one.  Ill defintly keep your mom buddy in my prayers

That's great.  Our NICU has a parent support program.  Everytime we go in for a NICU followup program they ask us if we'd be interested.  At this point we are just simply too busy (my kids are 16 months apart).  I think once they are a little older we are going to volunteer our services.  I know that they helped us when we were parents with a baby in the NICU.
