Okay, DS caught a cold right after Christmas and had it for almost 2 weeks. He was just getting over it, and then suddenly had a runny nose and cough again. This was last Sunday (almost 2 weeks ago). A couple of days after this, he started having slight diarrhea. We then realized he was cutting a tooth, so I assumed that was where all those symptoms came from. His tooth has been through the gums for about a week now and he still has the same symptoms. The thing is, he hasn't had a fever at all, and he's been acting totally normal in every other way - eating fine, sleeping normally, etc. I'm not really worried since he's not acting different...but the fact that he's had slight diarrhea for over a week and cold symptoms for almost a month now just doesn't seem normal. Would you call the pedi or do you think this sounds pretty normal for a teething baby?
Re: would you call pedi?
Is the diarrhea more than 6-8 times per day? Then call, if it lasts more than 48 hours, call. Keep him hydrated as you can, watch for signs. Call and see amounts of pedialyte you can give (if FF you can sub that for water).
DD has had intestinal issues 6 times and pneumonia 4 in the last year...we do this frequently...
It's not 6-8 times a day....when he's regular, he's once or twice a day, and in the past 2 weeks it's been anywhere from 2-5 times a day. It's looser than normal but not watery or mucousy. And he's drooling like crazy and having plenty of wet diapers so I'm sure he's not dehydrated.
I worry so much now that I'm a mom! Maybe I'll call on Monday just for piece of mind....
dd's poop is thinner now that she is drooling and swallowing more saliva. pedi told us not to worry about this kind of poop.
Ahh...I never really thought about that...that's probably why he's pooping more. He drools through like 3 bibs a day so that makes sense that he'd be swallowing a ton of saliva too. Thanks!!
