Newly PG, have a size related question

Hi ladies,

?I just got a BFP this morning and am trying to figure out how much bigger I'll get by five months, when I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. Any thoughts on how many sizes to go up? How much should I anticipate to "grow" in the bust and mid-section? Other areas? Thanks!?

Re: Newly PG, have a size related question

  • Wow, that is really a difficult question to respond to, since everyone is so different.  I wouldn't even have a guess, sorry.

  • There is no set "size" for 5 months. Everyone is different.

  • No one will be able to tell you how big you'll be at 5 months.  Take a look around here, there are women of all sizes... some showing, some barely so.

  • Really hard to say.

You might gain a lot of weight in the next few months, you may lose some.  And, some women have bigger bellies, some have small.

  • agreed... everyone is different. Wink

  • Well, everyone is completely different. There is no way to tell. Maybe go up 2 sizes and try to get a corset back style?

  • It's really going to depend on your body type. ?I was visibly pregnant at 20 weeks, but only grew in my belly. ?A co-worker just hit 20 weeks and you can barely tell. ?Another friend of mine gained weight everywhere. ?It's very hard to predict. ?I would plan for the worst and size down if you have to, but remember at a certain point they just can't rebuild the dress any more.

  • ditto pp's... I'd just order a few sizes up and then do alterations.

  • I was a bridesmaid in my mom's wedding at 18 weeks pregnant.  We went to David's Bridal and they had a pillow "bump" that you could put on to simulate having a 5 month bump!  I ended up getting 2 sizes up and still had to take it in!  Good luck!
  • I am sure the dress shop can help you. Two if my friends were pregnant when I asked them to be bridesmaids and the dress shop helped them order the correct size. They always tell you to go bigger because you can take it in but it is hard to let it out.

The last wedding I was in I ignored that advice and went with the smaller of the sizes. I didnt know I was going to be pregnant when I ordered the dress so I was miserable the whole time.

I think two sizes up is a safe bet....but ask the dress shop!?

  • Get your size, but with a dress that has a waist and bust that can be taken out...
  • Everybody's different. You might not gain a pound by then, you might gain 10. Your boobs might be up 2 sizes, they may be exactly the same as they are now.?

Talk to the seamstress at the dress store. They get this all the time I'm sure. I'd imagine you'll want to get a size or two bigger, because it's always easier to take off fabric than to add it on. ?

  • i am MOH at my sister's wedding in february, i'll be 27 weeks. i had to order the dress when i was 4w2d. i had no idea what size to get, i got measured for a sz 6 and ordered a sz 12. i would definitely get it 3 sizes bigger just in case, they can easily take it in, but there's only so much fabric to let out!

also i just got the dress and i am not looking to get it altered at all until 2 weeks before the wedding, and then final fitting 3 days before. you just never know how you are going to grow!

     good luck!

  • Even before I got my BFP I had to order a bridesmaid dress.  I will be 8 months pregnant in May and am standing up in a wedding.  I ordered the biggest size they had knowing that it would be too difficult to determine how large I would be or how much weight I would gain.  I figure that you can just take it in if it's too big, but can't add unless you have purchased extra fabric.

  • That's a hard one. As everyone else has already said, no one is the same. Try a "belly" they usually have them at maternity stores. But keep in mind, other things might grow like your hips or booty. My friend who is 22 weeks pregnant is still wearing normal shirts and hardly looks pregnant - just starting to get a tiny pooch - but her booty has gone up 2 pants sizes and her tighs have grown too! And she's usually a 100 lbs. pre-pregnancy. So if I were you, I'd hold off buying a dress until closer to the wedding. Wait as long as you can for it. My bridesmaids dresses were delivered to their houses in 5-7 days and my SIL was in a wedding where her bridesmaid dress took 3 months to come in. So that'll depend a lot on it too. I'd look for a dress that would accent your belly though (if you have one) so that you look pregnant and not just like it's extra weight. GL!!

Side note: While they can always take in a dress, any seamstress will tell you that they can only take it in so much (I think usually 2 sizes) before having to recontruct the dress (which will probably cost a fortune!). So ask the people and seamstress at the dress shop about that particular dress. Don't just go by what the 18 year old new hire is telling you.

  • I will be in a wedding at 29weeks and the David's Bridal consultant told me to order my dress 4 sizes too big and just have it sized down.
