Q for FF moms

How strict is the 24-hour rule? I always make DD's bottles the night before and put them in the fridge for the next day. She has a tummy bug that started last night so she is behind 3 bottles. Can I save them for tomorrow if I made them last night? I hate to waste them. She is on alimentum and that stuff costs a fortune! Thanks.

Re: Q for FF moms

  • If my DC had a tummy bug, I wouldn't chance making it worse with questionable formula. I know that sucks to hear!

  • I don't know about the powder but I know with the ready to pour kind you can keep in the fridge for 48 hours before using it. Odd question but I am in NH and I have a can of powdered Alimentum that we made one pitcher of formula with and now we can't use it. My DS will only tolerate the ready to pour which is way expensive. Do you want the rest of it? I completely understand if you don't since it has been opened but I figured I would ask because I hate to throw it out since it's $25 worth of formula that won't be used. My email is kristenmtg@gmail.com if you are interested.
  • Hmm, if she didn't have a stomach bug, I'd say go for it, but given that she's already sick, you'd hate to give her the formula if it goes bad or has the possibility of going bad.  I have no idea how flexible the 24 hour rule is with formula.  I know I've basically bent every single rule there is with breastmilk, but I'm not quite as confident about formula.

My co-worker said she's put her child to bed with a formula bottle, and he's woken up the next day and drank the formula w/ no problems.  That is a bit extreme, IMO.

  • krismtg -- thanks so much for the offer. If you lived down the street I'd say sure. But we have enough stocked up for months at this point. But thanks!
