If we are home, I usually rock him to sleep then put him in his crib. If we are out, he usually falls asleep in the car or in the stroller. I don't purposely take car rides to make him sleep. There are times now when I put him down awake and falls asleep on his own.
You have to do what's best for you.....sleep...by (almost) any means...sleep.
My girls can nap 2 hours in their swings or bouncy chairs - but almost immediatly after I've put them in their cribs they are wide awake. Sleep is sleep at this point in the game.
I use the swing to get him to fall asleep, then once he is out I turn it off so he can get some motion-less sleep (which is supposed to be more restful).
We always use motion to get him to fall asleep. It is the only that works. The Happiest Baby on the Block also says that they will outgrow this once the fourth trimester is up. I don't know if it's true or not but for now sleep is sleep. I am seeing some difference, our DS is now able to sleep in his crib after being rocked to sleep whereas before he would only sleep in his swing when moving all of the time.
And about the vibrating bed for adults, that would definitely make sex more interesting.
Re: Naps: motion or no motion?
I don't like to have to rely on motion to get ds to sleep, but I will if he won't go down otherwise.
Think about it: Do you, as an adult, sleep in a swing or vibrating bed? :-)

I've thought about this too- but, as an adult I don't like to sleep sitting up (like in a carseat or on someone's shoulder) but babies do! ?
