So I used to work as a FT time nanny/PT babysitter. I made about $10-12 an hour but this was abour 10 years ago. If someone was to bring their baby with them to work, how much do you think is fair to charge the family per hour nowadays? TIA!
I think $8-$10 is the norm depending on your experience/qualifications and what all you are expected to do. Do they also expect housework or just childcare and other things like that.
I would compare the cost to what a family would pay for a "nanny-share"- where two families are splitting the cost of a nanny watching their babies. That is your competition.
In Chicago, the going rate for a nanny for 2 babies is $13-15 or so. Since I would be paying approximately $7-8 for a nanny-share, I wouldn't want to spend more to hire a nanny who was also bringing their own child (maybe I'm pessimistic but I would think that there would be instances where both babies were crying and the mom would instinctively pick up her own baby first).
