Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Tell me your bedtime routine for your two month old.

I am having the hardest time getting a good bedtime routine figured out. Do you feed your little one first and then read to them, etc., or read, feed, put to sleep? Also how did you get a set bedtime? I feel like our DD's is different every night because her schedule is always different based off of her feedings for the day.

Re: Tell me your bedtime routine for your two month old.

  • EVERY night about 30 min before her last feeding (8-9pm) I get the bath ready and bottle ready.  We do bath, lotion, read, bottle and she's OUT for the night.  It really seemed useless when I started it at 8wks but now I am glad I did.

  • do you remember how long your LO would go before her next feeding if you put her down between 8 and 9? right now we are doing our bedtime routine around 6 or 7, but we wake her up at 10:30 or 11 to give her a big bottle and she sleeps until 3 or 4...i keep wondering if we should not wake her for that feeding?

Once she is down for the night she sleeps until 5-6am... That started about 3 wks ago.  She would have her last feeding from 7-9pm  then ALWAYS woke up for a midnight feeding and then slept until 5.   eventually the midnight  feeding just went away... I always fed her but DH started giving her a paci and she just went back to sleep.  This helped because she started only really putting the ounces away during day and not wanting any at night.  We do increase her bedtime bottle 1-2 oz more to hold her over.  Hey it works!! :)

  • We started our routine when DS was about 3.5 weeks and it's worked for him so far.

His bedtime routine (times are flexible and need to be at this point) consists of bath, massage, pjs, low lights, and a book & bottle in the glider.  After the bath, he doesn't leave his nursery.  Once we dim the lights, we use very soft or no voices at all.  He has his longest stretch of sleep after this (anywhere from 6 to 8 hours at once - 8.5 the other night!!).  We start this routine no earlier than 5:30 but no later than 6:30. Sometimes if he's really tired, we skip the bath, but do everything else.

He will wake up anywhere from 1:30am to 2:30am for his next feeding and then again at 6am or 7am.  DH does the early morning feeding, so I manage to get a good amount of things done around the house/Nesting/sleep when DS goes down.

  • We do a bath at 7pm, then I nurse him or give him a bottle of BM, book then bed.  We used to have an extremely colicy baby, but when we instituted this routine at 7 weeks, we got our nights back.  And, we don't vary the time.  No matter what time his last feed or nap is, we still start the routine at 7pm.  He typically gets up at 11:30 - midnight and 3-4 to feed.
  • We start the routine around 7:15.  We do bath, lotion and massage, bottle and bed.  We've been doing this since about 1 month old and she sttn every night.  8-10 hours, sometimes as long as 11 hours!
