And before I ask my question; to all those anti-cio-ers, I am a horrible parent, my child thinks I don't love her, I can't believe I am doing this, I shouldn't breed, yada yada yada.
Ok, now my question....do you let DC cio during naps or just at bedtime? Do they use a paci? Is it okay to replace the paci when I check on her (ferber method)? TIA
Re: I have a ? for those who let DC CIO
We started doing the Ferber method a couple of weeks ago. We use the method for naps and for bedtime. She cries for a maximum of five minutes for both, usually. She uses a pacifier, but she can put it back in herself, so I usually don't have to worry about it.
We used it at bedtime for DS #1. We had a 10 minute rule. Pretty much let him make as much noise as he wanted within 10 minutes. Almost always he would be asleep within 10 minutes (and often 3 or 4). If he was still crying after 10 minutes, we would go into his room, pick him up, calm him down and lay him back down for 5 minutes. If still crying after 5 minutes we'd try 5 minutes again. If still crying after 5 minutes we'd pick him up and rock him to sleep. We hardly ever had to use the extra 5 minute intervals (once or twice a month at most).
We really only had to do this for a short period of time, and almost always he'd be fast asleep well within the first 10 minutes. He was truly STTN (8pm - 5am) by the time he was 12 weeks old.
We used a paci.
He's 19 months now and a great sleeper. And, I might add, a very happy little guy.
Both. I've done CIO for 2 kids so far, and if L needs it, I'll do it for him too.?
No paci's though......?
