Who nurses to sleep?

I need a little support from those who nurse to sleep. Always have with DD, even for naps. She will not go to sleep any other way, believe me I have tried. Do you think it is bad? Opinions needed, encouragement that I am not ruining my child like some tell me.

  • Nursed DD#1 to sleep for 13.5 mos.  One night, we put her to bed without it and bam, she was fine.  Granted, she's super easygoing...

I am nursing DD#2 to sleep.  A. it gets her to sleep, and B. I enjoy it a LOT!  I know it is a habit we'll have to break, but in the grand sheme of things, she'll only be little and nursing for such a little amount of time in her life.  I'm cherishing every moment of it.

  • I do, but she also goes to sleep at daycare and naps at home with DH at times, so she can fall asleep without.

  • I'm so glad you posted this!!  I have been doing it but our Dr really does not want us to because he says he will develop bad sleeping habits.  But it is literally the ONLY way he will go to sleep at night.  Oddly enough he goes down for naps without any problem.  So for a month or so we killed ourselves trying to do the 'drowsy but awake' which did NOT work, and finally in the last week or so we were like eff it, we'll work on getting him to go down on his own when he's a little older.  It's not like you can reason with a 3.5 month old.  So anywho, yeah we're doing.

  • I think as long as you're not having sleep association problems, then it's fine!  But if your LO is not able to get herself back to sleep during those brief awkenings in his sleep cycle because she's not being nursed, you need to make a change.  HTH!

  • I do, but only at bedtime and in the middle of the night.  During the day we are on an eat, play, sleep schedule.  He tends to skip the last nap of the day and just eat and go to bed at 7pm.  I have to admit that I really enjoy it too.  He is so sweet when he falls asleep!  Heck, if I thought I could actually sleep comfortably I would co-sleep with him.  He is such a cuddler!
  • I do, its the only way she will sleep at nite. Granted she is only 3 weeks old, but I enjoy it too. People have given me crap about it too, but they're not here at 3am with a screaming infant!! We'll try a new way when she's a little older.
  • I still do. This  article always makes me feel better when I doubt my decision.
