Success after IF

Major scare last night and still worried (long)

I was laying in bed downstairs when I started to smell something funny. Few seconds later DH screams out he could smell gas, he accidently left the burner on.

We opened up all the windows and I started to try and get the baby to move. I tried everything I normally do to make her move and nothing was working...we both started freaking out. Dh was on the verge of tears and ready to go to the ER. I decided to eat some chocalte and have some water but nothing. It was late and she usually doesn't move around that time. Finally a few minutes after I ate the chocolate, she started to move and was very active. I made a call to my DR and he called back in 2min. He told me as long as she was moving and I was feeling ok...everything was fine. Of course I felt better when he told us that but I can't help but worry still. I have my weekly appt. today so we will discuss it some more.

We have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and were in the process of getting some more stuff to baby proof the house...these are things everyone should have regardless but we were being extra careful...now I'm going to be  paranoid about everything...

On top of all this...MIL has been in the hospital a few day and will have diverticulitis surgery on Sat. and DH's Stepdad was admitted into the hospital yesterday with fluid in his lungs....its like when it rains it pours :(

Sorry for the long vent and thanks for reading if you got this far.....

  • OMG, how scary!  A girl and her daughter on my local board almost died a few weeks ago from carbon monoxide poisoning.  I'm confused though - is your detector not installed?  It should have alerted you!

  • You are 38 weeks pregnant! Of course you are going to worry and be on the edge! I am glad all turned out OK. I am sorry about the surgery and your father in law's condition but try to just focus on your own joy right now!

I left the burner on the stove for hours one night when DS was 3 months old. The way I discovered it was that I went upstairs to check on him and his room was filled with a gas smell. I ran down and sure enough, the burner was on so much you could hear a hiss but no flame. How the hell did I do that? But anyway, we left ASAP for a walk and left the windows open and were upset the whole time that our house would blow up or that he would be sick from the gas...it turned out OK. I totally understand your fear last night and am glad it worked out OK.

  • OMG Esth!!!!!!!! I am so glad you, DH and baby are Ok. Hopefully, at your apt you will get more reassurance.

  • yes, it is installed but we were going to test it out this week again because it had been going off for no reason when we initially installed it and its not even a cheap one...I had just printed a list from the nest on baby proofing the house a few days ago which is what made me tell dh we needed to check it again.

  • That is so scary!  I'm so sorry-- I would be freaking out about not feeling her too.  I'm glad she finally decided to move!!  I hope you get more reassurance at your appt soon.
  • That is scary.  Definitely check the monitors.  Maybe just buy a new one to be sure.

I am glad everything is fine.

  • I had a similar scare after my ER trip on Monday, so I totally feel for you!  I worry every morning I wake up and don't feel him move right away.  Just imagine how we are going to be after they are born!

Sorry you had to go through this!

  • Oh, how scary. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I bet baby is just fine, though. You guys turned off the burner as soon as you smelled the gas. My baby is like that too-- whenever I am worried about something he decides it's good time to sit real still and not move at all.

We are almost there-- I know motherhood will bring it's own set of panics, but it will be good to have these babies out where we can actually SEE that they are okay and breathing, right?
