traveling w/ infant- how soon?

hi all- I'm in my 2nd tri, but I had this question and really am too lazy to look it up ;). ?Have any of you talked to your pediatricians about how soon it is safe to travel (by air) with an infant? I'm assuming it's after some round of immunizations, but I have not a clue. ?

TIA?

Re: traveling w/ infant- how soon?

  • We flew with DD for Christmas when she was 5-6 weeks old.  No problems, in fact it was really easy.  We mentioned it to the pedi at her 2 week appt and no one said anything about not going.  Though honestly, we probably would have gone anyway, I wanted my grandparents to meet her and that may have been our only chance.  So it depends on how important the trip is.

  • I traveled by air whren DD was 4 weeks old for my grandmother's funeral.  Pedi said it was a judgment call to take her since it was December and so many people could potentially be sick on the plane.  I had to go and wasn't going to leave DD behind.  She was great on the plane and did not get sick.

  • Thanks ladies! The trip would be going back to Ohio (where all of my family lives) for my shower, so considering we would be the guests of honor it all hinges on if/when we travel. My folks decided to throw it shortly after the bean was born so everyone could meet the little stinker...hopefully this is a good decision! I keep telling myself that I won't need much gear (aside from the basics) during those first 6 weeks or so. ?Fingers crossed!
