can you take an antibiotic while breastfeeding?

I feel so horrible (head, throat, nose, chest etc) I am going to the dr. today but I don't know how much they are on the ball about bfing. Small town w/old school thoughts on things.. If they prescribe one what is the safest to take? I had to call off work which blows b/c I don't want to get yelled at but w/this I do not need to be around patients.

    depends on the meds... some are, some are not. You can call your pedi to find out if the one you get Rx'd is OK.

    I know from experience that Levaquin and Clindamycin are not safe with BFing. Ask your PCP to prescribe you a "safe" antibiotic. I would then call the Pedi to make sure!

    ask your ob, your pedi and your pharmacist

     

    my pharmacist was the only one who questioned the choice - ob & pedi said i'd be fine but i ended up pumping and dumping for a week when my son was only 2w!

    thank goodness he went back to the boob after ff
