Success after IF

can you take an antibiotic while breastfeeding?

I feel so horrible (head, throat, nose, chest etc) I am going to the dr. today but I don't know how much they are on the ball about bfing. Small town w/old school thoughts on things.. If they prescribe one what is the safest to take? I had to call off work which blows b/c I don't want to get yelled at but w/this I do not need to be around patients.

Re: can you take an antibiotic while breastfeeding?

  • depends on the meds... some are, some are not. You can call your pedi to find out if the one you get Rx'd is OK.

  • I know from experience that Levaquin and Clindamycin are not safe with BFing. Ask your PCP to prescribe you a "safe" antibiotic. I would then call the Pedi to make sure!

  • ask your ob, your pedi and your pharmacist

my pharmacist was the only one who questioned the choice - ob & pedi said i'd be fine but i ended up pumping and dumping for a week when my son was only 2w!

thank goodness he went back to the boob after ff
