Adoption

Anyone a Licensed Foster parent?

Hi!  I am new to this board and have recently started the classes to become a Licensed Foster Parent - with the intent to adopt.  Anyone else going at adoption this way?  I'd love to hear your success stories, sometimes I get so discouraged by al the negative stories so it would be nice for once.

Re: Anyone a Licensed Foster parent?

  • There are a few of us on here.  I am just waiting for a local police check to come in and then the final inspection.  We will then be licensed for fost/adopt and straight adopt.

We submitted our apps at the end of Oct, took classes in Nov and was assigned a homestudy worker at the end of Nov.

    Good Luck

  • my DH and I are. we've been licensed for 18 months and we're on 4th, 5th and 6th placements. we're hoping to adopt through foster care, but we haven't had the opportunity yet.

there are plenty of success stories and plenty of unsuccessful stories! you're more than welcome to email me :)

  • We became foster parents due to a sort of family situation, so our situation is different. However, we have already decided we will foster/adopt another child once this adoption is final. In California, it is a VERY VERY long process if you are wanting to foster/adopt. It takes them forever to terminate parental rights. If you are just wanting to foster, it is easier as your expectations are set.

Either way, it's a great way to help kids that are hopeless without a good foster parent. I pray every day the old school, abusive foster homes will be gone for good.

  • We got our foster license July 31 and have our 4th placement with us. We hope to adopt thru foster care but have not had the opportunity yet. Our experience so far has been extremely positive. I'm not sure how you define success, but I think ours is successful. We haven't adopted, but our lives and hearts are fuller and we know that the children we have been blessed to have received love and security.

Its been an interesting and challenging road with a lot of unexpected emotions and events. I'm happy to answer any questions I can about the process or experience. GL!

  • We started classes in March '04, were placed in December '04, finished classes in February '05, adoption finalized March '06. ?It was a roller coaster, but worth it. ?
