maternity shopping catastrophe!

So after reading posts about lots of sales on maternity clothes, I figured that I would go out today and see what's going on. So I went to Gap, Old Navy, Target and found nothing! Not even sales racks, just little to nothing to choose from and only a couple things that were even wearable in public! So will there be more shipments or is the selection always slim? I am going to take a journey to Motherhood Maternity which is about 45 minutes away, just to see what they have. I am just looking for some t-shirts and maybe a few cute tops. Anyone have any advice or know what the selection gets better?

  • Honestly, I think it depends on where you live. I live in a highly populated area but only one of each of those stores, so everything gets sold quickly. I would look online, it would probably be easier and their sizing charts are pretty good to indicate what size you are. And if it doesn't fit usually you can return it to their store so you don't have to ship it back. GL

  • Do you need maternity clothes at 8 weeks?  If not, my advice is to wait until you really need them to buy anything.  You never know how you will put on weight and which parts of your body will change.  Some clothes just didn't look right on me when I was pregnant, just like some clothes didn't look right on me pre-pregnancy.

  • The selection around here sucks.  I've bought most of my clothes online at Old Navy or Target.  Motherhood has a big selection in store, but most of their stuff is too tight in the bust for me.  Walmart and Kmart are awful.  Kohl's had a good selection in store.  JCP and Sears have some, but a small selection.
  •  Do you have a Once Upon a Child near you? I got the majority of my maternity clothes there. I got a pair of gap jeans for $3.50. i was able to buy my entire maternity wardrobe for under $200.

  • I'm expecting to do most, if not all, of my maternity clothes shopping online.  Huh?  You'll find an endless selection on the world wide web!  GL!

It really is hard to buy maternity ahead of time because you do not know how your body will change.  I would wait to drive to a store that is far away until you really need things.  Motherhood is ok, but I have always been disappointed in it.  Mimi is much better.  So, if the store is a combination of Mimi and Motherhood then you will have more selections.

Most of the things are winter right now, so again I would wait since what you will need is spring and summer.

I used a lot of Gap but only from ordering it on line.  I would order several sizes and return what did not fit.  Old Navy never fit that well, imo.  I also ordered from Nordstrom on line because of their great return policies.

  • I bought a lot of Gap/ON items on eBAY last time around. I only bought "NWT" items from sellers with good ratings, and got some cute things for not a heck of a lot of money.

  • I like the clothes at Motherhood and am lucky enough to live 10 minutes away from the outlet, but I buy a lot online. ?I have been to several Old Navy stores and none of them have a good selection, but their website is great.
