NBR ?: Do you wax? or shave?

OK, I have been a swimmer my entire life and have always shaved on a daily basis (I'm talking about girl parts.)  However, I have a few friends who have bikini waxes or Brazilian waxes done, and they rave about them.  DH says to go for the full Brazilian because of course he thinks it's sexy (I think he believes if I do it I will turn into some type of porn star), but I was wondering if I decided to do it should I start with just a bikini wax? How long does the hair need to be?

  • I usually shave, but I have waxed a few times.  Hair doesn't have to be to long to wax.

I love how men think an inner porn star lives with in all of us and only shows up when hairless, hahaha.

  • I get brazilians.  Once you get one you will not tolerate anything else.  But, if I were you, start with a regular wax and go from there.  The hair doesn't need to be very long if you have a good aesthetician.  Mine uses sugar instead of wax and there are no paper strips.  She can get tiny stubs of hair with that stuff.  It's quite amazing.  Good luck!

  • I had a Brazilian a few years ago and it make me all red and bumpy. I don't get them regularly because I can't really afford to.

    I shave. Carefully.

    How painful are the Brazilians?

I love regular bikini waxes - I could do those year round if we had the money.  I've only had a true brazilian once and it hurt so bad that I almost screamed f*** in the middle of it (and I can usually tolerate pain).  I've head they get better with time (which I know it true with regular ones), but I've been too much of a wimp to try again!  More power to you, though, if you decide to go for it.  I enjoyed it after the pain!

  • I got a?Brazilian?before the wedding. ?I started bleeding b/c she ripped off a zit (yes, eww, I had a zit down there) and I never want to do it again. ?I shave, about once every two days, like PP said....very carefully.

  • I have always shaved my under arms, but for over 10 years now I have been waxing my legs and my bikini line.  It hurt like hell the very first time, but with each time it got easier and less painful.  Now, I hardly feel it.  As well, the longer you wax for, less and less hair grows.  I remember when I first waxed, I didn't shave for a good 6 weeks and I felt like chewbacca from star wars... it was not pretty and of course I only wore pants during those weeks.  But over the years, less and less hair grows on my legs. It's actually very cool.  And I will never go back to shaving my legs or bikini.  Why would I want to start that again... to have to do it every day or every other day and deal with the stubble as it comes back, when I can go a good 4 weeks now w/o having to wax because there is just no hair on my legs and then ones that do grow in are soft... By the 5th week they are sprouting out here and there.  So on the 6th week I go in for waxing.  I have tried a few of the different do it yourself products available at any pharmacy or Target, they work OK, but it isn't so easy to do it yourself and it takes much longer.  I would rather have it done.  As for the bikini line, I never tried the brazilian until about a year ago.  It hurt like hell.  I had it done at the spa I like to go to with the technician who I have been a client of for quite some time.  I was a bit embarrased at first, as I did have to take off my underwear and of course raise my leg this way and that way... turn this way and that way... but in the end I was over it.  I have only done the brazilian wax three times now and yes, DH loves it.  I am not crazy about it, but it does make a difference when you put on your beachwear.    I would recommend doing it atleast once if you never have, just to experience it for yourself - the actual process and then the reaction from your hubby...
