LIP: I can't think of a good tag for this...

all i know is that these people shouldn't keep having kids if they can't afford to have a car or even have an OVEN (WTF?!?) in their place.

  •  Just proves my theory, you have to have a license to drive but anyone can breed.

I couldn't believe when she was talking about saving and having a nice wedding.    It is called pay your hospital bills and than save for your dream wedding.  As a tax payer I've no problem helping those who want to help themselves and thier famlies and have fallen on rough times.  I was 2 steps away from needing help when DH's company started faltering.  But whenshe said "The (government is) supposed to help us."  It kind of made me angry b/c it doesn't seem like they are doing anything to help themselves and just expect the handout.

  • I am with you Francisca. I am all for helping those in need. But is quite another thing to continually support people who "work the system".

  • I agree with Francisca and I have no problem helping families that are going through a difficult spot and need assistance, because lets face it, that could easily happen to so many in this economic climate.  I also do not think that the government has the right to mandate that they get married.  It's like you parents telling you, "oh if you get good grades on your next report card, then you can have_______."  Based on the limited information in the article, it does seem that they expect the bills to be forgiven due to their current financial situation.  I think that the state should work with them to make the payments more reasonable, but these people also need to take responsibility for not only paying their debt, but the for the child they brought into this world.

  • As someone who has received public assistance in the form of food stamps and Medicaid for my DD, I know that it can be extremely helpful when you have fallen on hard times. That said, I do not expect to have anything handed to me. I work hard for what I earn and I am working hard to get back in a place where I am not relying on anyone else.

We are currently waiting on approval for DD's PA Medicaid case, but if we find out that DH's temp job is turning permanent and they offer him medical benefits, we will gladly close the Medicaid case and take the private insurance in a heartbeat.

It's nice to know that the help is there when you need it, but no one should be completely reliant on the system. I agree with all of the PPs. If this woman can't afford the basic building blocks of a family (come on, a stove?), then she needs to keep her legs closed and stop bringing children into this world, no matter how badly she wants them.

  • MrsDR1015  GL w/your Dh's temp job!  Hopefully it will be permanet Smile  It is a really tough economy right now.

Totally agree!  I have no problem with those that need help getting it, but it is ridiculous that people continue to have children, do NOT ever expect to pay ANY bills, and they act like others are treating THEM badly!  We live literally paycheck to paycheck and work our tails off at our house.  I get so upset when I see people complaining when they ARE getting help from someone else and are NOT working or attempting to get work somewhere.  GRRRR!!!!!

  • A good tag?  "If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em."

I find this situation frustrating b/c she's right, her wedding is none of the state's business, but they're offering a heck of a deal.  I didn't read carefully and can't imagine why the state would do that.  But the whole entitlement thing makes me angry.  That hospital very well could have saved her and or child's life.
