1st Trimester

Vaccines during the frist trimester?

I need to get my tetanus booster and my Hep B vaccine since I work in a dental office and have a higher risk of contracting these diseases.  I can't get in to see a doctor for another 2 weeks, to even ask about the vaccines.  Has anyone had either of these while they were in their 1st trimester?

  • I was at the doctor a couple of weeks ago and asked about my Hep A & B because I have to get my 3rd shot before the end of March.  He said I should wait until I'm at least in my 2nd trimester to get it (if I do it at all).  I think the best thing to do is wait and talk to your doctor.

  • Even though you are not going to the Dr for a couple weeks, I would call and ask them over the phone.  Better safe than sorry and this is not something I'd trust a bunch of us on a message board to answer (no offense). But then again, I am also unvaccinated and plan to stay that way so the whole idea of them at all in pregnancy really freaks me out.

  • I know you can get the tetanus shot, as I just had one a week ago thanks to a smashed finger.  I don't know about Hep B.  I know you do not want live vaccines, but ones that are not live are ok.  I'd just check with your OB about the HepB (the nurse would probably even know).
