We're going over to a friend's to watch football tomorrow & MH is totally paranoid that they're all going to pick up on the fact that I'm not drinking and hence pregnant. I told him I'd give the whole "I'm on antibiotics and can't drink" excuse but he doesn't think it'll fly since I'm a well-known lush among our friends.
If you haven't told friends yet, what are your excuses for not drinking in social situations?
[Disclaimer: I'm not a heavy drinker at all, but in a situation like tomorrow I would have a couple glasses of wine over the afternoon]
Re: So what are your excuses?
I'm actually currently having a problem with this as well, only parts of my family don't quite know yet either. I've just been telling people I had 2 months of non stop drinking and partying (which is partially true) and just have been laying off it. Worse comes to worse, I've learned how to keep a can of beer in my hand and not actually drink it, but if I go to the bathroom take it with me and pour it out. People will still prob hound you, but eventually they get too drunk to even realize you aren't really drinking. It's easiest to disguise it in a can, or like a red solo cup.
I do like the idea of just saying you are a the DD though... that could work too prob.
When everyone is drinking casually I just say that I am so tired, if I have a drink i'll get too sleepy and I have work to do tonight. I have also made my own cocktails, I brought vodka and cranberry juice and only used the cranberry juice!! I just made my drink when no one was watching and I only had one or two. I only did this early on (less than 6 weeks) when we weren't telling that many people.
