Tonight I was thinking that perhaps I should be taking life a bit easier than I used to. I had a friend who once miscarried and blamed it on being so busy and not taking it slow.
So are any of you being more cautious and taking it easier? Do you know if it really can affect the baby in the first tri? TIA!
Re: Are any of you doing things differently?
Everything I've read said that you can't really do anything to cause miscarriage (barring severe injury, major drug use, etc.) - rather a miscarriage is because something was wrong with the embryo and it could not survive. I think a lot of women who have miscarriages blame themselves becuase they want to feel like somehow they should have been able to control the situation, which they couldn't possibly have. So no, I don't think you will give yourself a miscarraige by being to stressed.
That being said, I do think pregnancy is a time to focus on yourself and your growing family and to prioritize what is really important to you. That does mean looking at all your commitments and trying to back off un-ncecessary things that cause you stress. I think it is also a great time to get a handle on how you manage your stress- espcially since your stress will surely increase once the baby is here!
I say kudos to you for trying to take it a bit easier, but I wouldn't worry that not doing so will cause you to lose the baby. Oh, and I would suggest that "backing things off" not mean that you elminiate exercise - that is one thing that helps manage stress and helps you have a helathy pregnancy.

I'm taking it easier, but not b/c of that - b/c I'm always so darned tired, and laying down sometimes helps my m/s. I've also found that since getting PG, I seem to care less about little things I used to get upset about in life (mainly work based - I still get worried about PG-related things).
From everything I've read and been told by Dr.'s, aside from heavy drug and alcohol abuse, there is really nothing you can do that would cause a miscarriage. It happens b/c of a chromosomal disorder, infection or something else in your body that you can't control.
However, stress is bad for the baby, so you are smart to be taking it easy.
