Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Rubbing Ear = Ear Infection?

So the mouse has been rubbing his left ear the past three days. He hasn't been fussy, or weird at all ... and he only seems to do it when I'm holding him for his bottle. Do you think this could be signs of an ear infection?  Or just a weird tick he's developed for feeding times?  I was thinking about calling the pedi's office on Monday.

Re: Rubbing Ear = Ear Infection?

  • DD pulls her ear when she's tired.

  • It's also a sign of teething or being tired. L has been doing the same thing. If he has a fever I'd be more inclined to think it's an ear infection, but you honestly never know ...

  • Annnnnnd I'm done. Honestly I don't get "the mouse" thing but every time I open your posts I am annoyed by it. He has a really nice name, why not use it?

The mouse crap is too much for me. Soooo totty's posts are out.

  • I want to think I read that it could also mean teething is happening.  But ear infection is also possibility.  Good Luck!  Usually if dc has a cold, congestion, or croup an ear infection can follow.
  • DS rubbed and pulled at his ears for a few days right before our 6 month appt and I was sure she was going to say he had an ear infection, but instead said that his ears looked perfect. ?So who knows. ?Don't freak out, but call the pedi if you want to check it out.

Um ... ok?  I'm pretty sure I explained it to you weeks ago in another post, but whatever.

I didn't think about the teething thing (which he is ... he's getting two teeth right now, I bet that's what it is.

  • DD was doing the EXACT same thing a few weeks ago so i took her to the pedi because i thought she might have an ear infection.  there was no ear infection and it was most likely teething
  • LOL Lanie....I actually think it's kinda cute.

  • DS was just diagnosed with an ear infection- no pulling, no fever, no fussiness.  We went in for pink eye, left with a double ear infection.  Doesn't hurt to have it looked at.

He does have a stuffy nose.  I am sure that is what caused it.

  • okay.  glad you felt the need to be a mature adult about it and just no longer open her posts.  why you felt the need to insult the nickname that obviously means something to her to call her son that - i have no idea.  but how about just no longer opening her posts?  that would solve your issue without being rude?  just a thought!

Done and done! No more mrs.totty posts!

  • I've read it to mean either teething or an ear infection.  Mason was pulling at his ear off and on for about a week.  No other signs, so I took him in just to be sure (he's already had 2 EI's) and sure enough he has another EI!!  No fever, nothing!  At this age it's hard to tell, I know I always feel better (and feel like a better mom) when I take him in even if they say that nothing is wrong.  HTH!

  • Ok, I don't post often, but the mouse thing kind of rubbed me the wrong way.  My DH and I also call our DD mouse.  It is a nickname just like any other nickname.  If that is what I or Totty chooses then so be it.  I think the comment was unnecessary! I hope that I am not out of line.
  • My DS rubs his whole head (lol) and his ears when he's nursing, especially at night.

Look at you! So true! Would it help if i start a whole new thread about how much I hate it and how I'm never going to let my kid watch the news to keep them a baby forever? Would that make you happier muffin?

It's not, Lanie just has a snark quota she has to fill each day and I happened to be 'it' tonight.

    ::shrugs::

I like the nickname, and yes, it does mean a lot to me so I'm not all that bothered by what other people that I don't even know think of it.

  • Ben was pulling on his ears like crazy.  I had the pedi take a look b/c I thought he might have an infection.  Nope.  It was from the teething.
  • It's a really weird thing to get stuck on!

So true....I filled Totty's quoata last night.  Just don't call her a Redneck and you're golden.

Don't feel sorry for Totty ladies.  She deals her fair share of bull sh!t.  LOL.

Hmmm ... only when racist comments are dealt and then backed up from certain people who make my area of the country look ignorant.

  • How many did you have to drink last night Totty?  When does the statement

white mom and black dad (or visa versa) make a biracial baby= racist?

I didn't even write the post.  You're funny.

  • Sigh.

Reading comprehension, you don't have it. Seriously, I never said you were the OP, I said you were backing her ridiculous, biggoted, racist (yes, questioning someone else's self evaluation of race and creed comes off as VERY racist) question.

But I'm over that argument ... and you. I'm sorry you're so small minded that you have to have someone explain to you why it was a horrible question.

  • 1) regarding the ear...Kenley did this for a little while and I thought it might be an ear infection but she wasn't ever fussy and never ran a temp.  With the mouse getting a tooth recently, I agree with pp that maybe that's why he's rubbing

    2) said it on FB and I'm saying it here...I LOVE his nickname!!!!
