TTC After a Loss

NBR: excersize plan?

Please help me ladies! I've gained soo much weight these last few months and I'm in a total funk right now, I need to snap out of it. I want to start excersizing again. In summer I used to walk a lot and bike, but in the winter I'm just not able to get motivated right now. I have a busy 2 year old and work FT, but I know that's not an excuse! :) I just want to lose this weight and feel better about myself, and get out of this physical and emotional cloud I'm in.

I have an elliptical machine, a treadmill, and some free weights, oh, and several excersise videos! lol.

Any ideas for plans, or what works for you, and any help staying motivated?

Thank you in advance :)

Re: NBR: excersize plan?

  • This may sound crazy and the ladies on here can laugh all they want, but it's working for me. I am a SAHM to a 3 year old, so getting out in the cold isn't really an option. I have started a "rowing" exercise when I am in the tub. I just put a little bit of water at first so I don't splash around more than DD does. lol I push off the front of the tub and just go back and forth stretching out my legs and bending them while moving my body. Just like rowing in a boat. What keeps me motivated is the fact that I have already lost a little bit of weight and I know I need to lose more. I give myself a goal of 5 lbs a month. It's completely reasonable. I also have been eating with my left hand. Since I have to concentrate on what I am doing, I don't scarf food down as fast. Therefore, my body has more time to realize that it's full and I don't eat as much. Also, I suggest drinking a full 8 oz glass of water before each meal. When it warms up more, I'll be going on walks in the evenings. GL to ya!

  • I feel your pain about the weight gain. I had two m/c's and all I have to show for it is 20 extra pounds!

I made it my new year's resolution to loose the weight I gained and then some (at least until I get my BFP!) So far I've made an effort to change my diet and that has seemed to work.  And, as far as exercise, I've tried to find an exercise class that I've really liked. I go to zoomba 3 x's a week. Those days I don't go to the class, I do Walk Away the Pounds at home, which only takes about 30 minutes. I also got a new video with weights today that I'm looking forward to doing.

It really helps me to get out of the house to exercise. Other people at the gym or in a class really motivate me and makes it more fun. Since you have a two year old, have you looked into Curves? I went to Curves for years and I lost a bunch of weight working out there.

One more thing, join the biggest looser weigh in on this board. It's helped me over the past two weeks realizing I'd have to be accountable for my weight actions by reporting what I lost/gained.

  • i remember my mom taking me with her for walks. she was a single mother so there wasn't really anyone to watch me so it was like a quality time thing. but when i was at my best weight (a little thick but still go great shape) i'd do 45min on the treadmill in the morning and ballet strength exercises in the early evening. it's a lot but i'd change it up to keep it interesting. but now i'll take our more energetic of our 2 dogs for a much longer walk on her own. it's helped both of us sleep better at night.

  • I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I am a huge fan of running personally.  With the equipment you have, you should be able to have a great workout.  I recommend doing at least 30 minutes of cardio about 4 to 5 days a week.  Try to switch it up between the treadmill and the elliptical machine.  It's good to mix up the type of cardio your doing so alternating the elliptical.  You should be working out at least every other day.  I'm not great about strength training, but it would be great if you could add that in for about 10 to 15 minutes after your cardio workout.

So a sample would be something like this:

    Sunday - Rest

Monday - Run/walk for 30 minutes, 10-15 minutes of strength training

    Tuesday - Rest

Wednesday - Elliptical for 30 minutes, 10-15 minutes of strength training

Thursday - Run/walk for 30 minutes, 10-15 minutes of strength training

    Friday - Rest

Saturday - Run/walk for 1 hour, 10-15 minutes of strength training

  • Thanks girls! I am going to take something from all your responses! I already feel more motivated after writing my post, I went downstairs and cleared off the elliptical (it was piled high with boxes, and about 2 inches of dust) and ran for 20 min. It's a start but I'm going to write out a workout agenda that I can stick with and once I start losing the weight and feeling better I know that will keep me motivated.  I just hate feeling the way I'm currently feeling so much..

And where is the Biggest Loser board...?

Thanks again girls, you always help me so much!!! :) (hugs)

  • Yay for getting started! I think it definitely helps to make yourself an agenda that way you are accountable for working out.  The Biggest Loser thing is actually something girls on this board are doing.  Every Monday there is a post about it.  Look out for it and Elysia can definitely add you.  GL!
