At my OB appointment yesterday, he said it was ok for me to head up to the Poconos this weekend but to make sure I mapquested directions to the nearest hospital with a level III NICU before we left. So I think the closest one to where I am staying is just over an hour away (Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest) but I want to call the local hospital to be sure. So I call Pocono Regional Medical Center and ask the lady at the desk and she says "oh I have no idea let me transfer you to Maternity". I get a nurse and I say "Hi I was wondering if you could tell me the local Level III NICU to your hospital" and she says "oh I have no idea, we have anumber of hospitals in the area" to which I reply "Oh I know but I am looking for a Level III NICU specifically" and she again says"I dont know" s I say "well does your hospital have the capabilities to deliver babies at 27 week and if not, then where would you send them" to which she replies "well you would come here first then we would figure it out" I just hung up thinking "holy f'n ***!"
Re: It is scary how incompetant some hospitals are...
OMG. That is insane. I am so sorry. You know what's weird is when I went into PTL on New Years I seriously just went to the nearest hospital - turned out they had a level III NICU and it was the best hospital I could have gone to. I love my new docs. But if I were you, I'd avoid that hospital and stick with the hospital that you KNOW has a level III NICU
But, you're going to do fine, take it easy on your trip and keep that baby in there!
And enjoy the Poconos - I had a great time there last year!
