Adoption

new here... question

Hello..

DH and I are TTC DC #1 but are running into some IF issues. . . we are open to adoption and are beginning to research the process. It seems most agencies that I've looked into require the couple to be married 2-3 years... is this pretty much the norm for most agencies? TIA and GL to all

Re: new here... question

  • We are signed with american adoptions and they had a two year marriage requirement. We were able to have that requirement waived by submitting a one page letter to their board explaining why we want to adopt, why we would be good parents, about us and our relationship, and why the requirement should be waived. And by completing some of their forms.

If you find an agency that you really like but they have the marriage requirement inquire to see if they offer exceptions or waivers. I believe that many do you just might have to jump through a few more hoops.

    Good luck.

  • The catholic sociial services in our area only requires a 1 year marriage.  It just depends...

  • Our agency in CA has no marriage requirement.  As pp said, I would always ask.  That seems like a requirement that could easily be waived depending on the circumstances.
  • Yes, we're seeing 2 or 3 years for the agencies we're looking at.
