Dress Fitting

I am going to be a bridesmaid for my SIL in November and the baby's due in August. She hasnt even started the whole bridesmaid dress process yet. Any ideas what I should do about my measurements? My clothes are already getting tight. I am assuming and hoping that I will have lost most of the baby weight by November, so I think I should measure now before I really start gaining. I dont even know where she plans on getting the dresses from.

Re: Dress Fitting

  • Your weight may shift after the baby is born. I would suggest ordering up a couple of sizes. It can always be taken in, but can't always be let out!

  • I would get fitted for one now to give you someone of an idea. And I am sure you will have plenty of time before the wedding and after baby to do more alterations!

  • thats tough. I would not assume you'll be pre-pg size by November. Your tummy stays bigger for a while and god only know how your boobs will be. I would maybe just go with a size bigger than you are now (as a pg lady) since its easier for them to take a dress in than let it out.
  • Yeah..I guess I will go a couple bigger. I was just worried because one of my girls had her baby a couple months before my wedding and the seamstress talked her into orderinga way bigger size to take in. They took in the dress alot but it never looked right and she was so miserable in it. She still hates my wedding pictures of her in her potato sack dress :)
  • I have been through this and basically ordered the size that I *hoped* to be at the time of the wedding. LOL. I was 6 months pregnant when the bride chose the dresses and had the fittings so I couldn't do any measurements. Unfortunately, I was not back to my original size or the size I hoped to be (it was 4 months after pregnancy) and I had to spend a lot of money to buy fabric to get the dress taken out. But it's one of those things- you just never know! And even when I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight my body was different and old clothes/dresses fit me differently...You really just have to take a chance when you order and budget for alterations. :)
