i haven't gathered ANYTHING yet . . . just that they have rescue out there and said they are optimistic about begin able to save people . . . people were in life vests on the top and wings of the plane as it's floating in the river. they are talking about a flock of low flying birds causing it??!!!!
The plane took off from LaGuardia at 3:11pm headed for Charlotte, and crashed into the Hudson at 57th Street. Boats and ferries are there pulling out people, and the plane is slowly sinking.

NBC -- Rescue crews are on the scene of a US Airways jet crash in New York's Hudson River.
The Airbus 320 is surrounded by ferries and rescue crews. Passengers can be seen wearing yellow inflatable vests and standing on the wing of the jet waiting to be taken ashore.
NBC News reported that 146 people were on board the jet with a crew of five.
It's not clear what caused the jet to go down and from where it originated. Some sources have said JFK while others said Laguardia. NBC News reported the jet was bound for Charlotte, North Carolina.
It came from LGA departing to CLT. Im a flight attendant I cant tell you how perfect that water ditching is. there is fuel almost no where.. other then the cold weather that pilot did an amazing job. The plane hit a flock of birds disabling both engines.. THATS A PILOT YOU WANT!
They hit a flock of geese. I used to have a goose - big son of a gun. He was run over and I'm not kidding when I say that when the guy who ran him over hit him, the goose left a dent in the front bumper of the truck.
So I'm not surprised that a flock of geese could have caused some damage to a plane or the plane's engine or whatever.

I work in the airplane industry too and AGREE 100% with you. I think that pilot did an AMAZING job and the airplane did exactly what it is designed to do. Yes -- hitting birds are very common -- and at the speed they go are VERY damanging to the engines and the fuselage (or more).

Well thosemother*** (birds) better stay out the way tomorrow when DH is coming home!!

They were very quick to thank the inflight crew... but let me tell you im not a pilot groupie... BUT THERE IS NO FUEL ANYWHERE in that river thats an amazing pilot... and quick reactions from flight attedants.. i mean really your taking off over a huge city how often do you think ditching in to a river is going to be your first option! This is best case senario... AMAZING PILOTS and reactions... AMAZING ditching from the inflight... and to think just last night some one said to me I dont need to pay attention to your demo I know what im doing... welll I hope he understands now
It's crazy what damage birds can cause to airplanes. My husband has to check the "Avian hazard" before he flies. I'm glad that it appears that everyone is ok!
So my mom called me this afternoon to tell me about this plane crash in the Hudson River. ?I had to go out of the apt. anyway to buy some groceries so I stopped by the waterfront. ?The crash was very close to the Hoboken pier but closer to the NY side. ?There were TONS of helicopters flying around and?ambulance, police, and fire on both sides of the river. ?When I got there I couldn't see the plane because it was surrounded by so many boats. ?They think everyone got out safely which is a miracle! ?While I was by the pier, I heard on an EMT's radio that passengers were evacuated and taken by ferry. There are some crazy photos on the front page of the NYTimes site - with all these passengers standing on the wings in the water. ?It's really cold here - it snowed about an inch this morning. ?So every though everyone it seems got out safely - it must have been so cold out there on the water. ? ? There is no word yet on injuries.
