1st Trimester

Eating Tuna

Oh crap....I've had a tuna sub from subway for lunch for 2 days in a row. They are my favorite. Just read my pregnancy book today and it says tuna is a no-no. Has everyone heard the same thing?

I'm so sick of the "you can't eat this, you can't eat that!" That has been the only frustrating thing about this pregnancy.

Some may think this is just another stupid question, but I'm freaking out now. Great!

Re: Eating Tuna

  • Tuna salad sandwiches from Panera were the one craving I had in my first trimester...I say, eat your heart out! My baby is doing just fine. :)

  • I agree eating everything in moderation is OK. Don't freak out about food I'm sure everything will be fine. You are PG and need to enjoy it!

  • I haven't heard that canned tuna is forbidden; I think as long as you aren't eating 3 cans a day everyday for your first tri you will be fine.

Don't worry, just lay off the fish for a week and you will be fine!

Now I'm craving a tuna melt. MMMM Tuna Melt.

  • Fish is good for you in pregnancy... great for brain development. But you just have to make sure you are eating lower Mercury fish. Canned tuna is considered a lower mercury fish... meaning you are fine, but just don't have any more this week, and maybe skip next week too. From now on, eat tuna no more then once a week.

  • Tuna, particularly albacore, can have a high-ish mercury content (like a lot of fish).

Like everyone is saying, everything in moderation... Two tuna subs are not going to give your kid mercury poisoning.

  • You can eat tuna, but it's recommended that you don't eat more than 6oz per week because of the mercury in it.

  • tuna is fine in moderation. ?there's nothing you can do about it now, so don't worry about it. ?i would limit it to one sandwich a week.
  • Tuna is fine in moderation. ?Don't fret over eating it for 2 days in a row.
  • Having a tuna melt tonight!!
  • You can eat tuna as long as it's no more than 1 can per week.  And it's supposed to be chunk light tuna not albacore or whatever else there is.  I have about 1 can every 2 wks.

  • I had a tuna sub from Subway the other day, it was awesome! A 6 inch is approximately 3 ounces of tuna. Also, Subway uses a light tuna, not Albacore.
