"My lips hurt real bad!"

No, for real.  My lips crack and bleed every single night.  No matter how much carmex, chapstick, etc. I put on them...they bleed.  This morning was my top lip...and it hurts to smile.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Mine are really dry so I have been trying to increase my fluid intake and that seems to be helping.  Is your house really dry, that may be contributing as well?
  • would using a vaporizer help?

what about having a damp washcloth on the pillow next to you?

    Vaseline??

I have at least 10 glasses of water a day...I've become a waterholic.  So if it's that...I can't imagine drinking anymore water than I already am. *sigh*

I've never thought of my house as "dry" but I don't know how you know.  lol.

  • I have tried vaseline...but not a vaporizer or damp washcloth.  I'll try those tonight!

  • I've been experiencing a similar problem.  My husband can't sleep with heat off in our bedroom and the dry air is causing me all sorts of problems.  I've been using Softlips and put it on at all times and I plugged a vaporizer near my side of the bed so it will help.  I can't possibly drink anything else before bed as I'm already running to the bathroom three times a night.  When your lips aren't too dry or cracked, try using a lip scrub to remove the dead stuff and use Aquaphor.  I swear by that stuff.  Aquaphor works better than vasoline, IMHO.  GL!
  • Buy a cold mist humidifier and put it in your room at night.

  • oh i am so glad i am not alone here! my lips look awful and i thought it was just me! i have been slathering on body works lip butter this morning. and a toothbrush helps get the dead skin off.

oh pregnancy, if it's not one thing, it's another

  • I have really dry skin too and sympathize with you!  I use Badger brand chapstick and it works really well.  I live in WI where it is very cold and windy and it keeps my lips hydrated.  If I could only figure out a way to keep the rest of my body from getting so dry...
  • All I can think of is Napoleon Dynamite!

I would recommend Carmex, but it looks like you've already tried it...maybe vaseline?

  • Definitely would try a humidifier.  Is is so great for you anyways, especially if where you sleep is dry, which it sounds like it is.

  • For a quick fix before you get to the store to buy a humidifier boil a huge pot of water. You can even add some fresh mint, orange peel or cinammon sitcks if you have them to scent your house along with adding some extra moisture.

  • Use Aquaphor Healing Ointment!  This stuff is the best.  I use it on my lips all of the time and i have really dry lips.  It is usually in the baby isle at the drugstore.
