14-month old w/ C. Diff

I just found out that my friend's 14-month old DS has C. Diff from being on antibiotics for a double ear infection. ?She said they aren't giving him Flagyl or Vancomycin and are letting it run it's course. ?Has anyone had experience with C. Diff and letting it just run it's course? ?I was diagnosed with C. Diff while in the hospital after having my c-section with DD, but was kept in isolation for a week while there (not fun right after having a baby) and was given the Flagyl first (didn't work) and then Vancomycin (helped), but was told that this is a very serious thing and super contagious. ?Why would they NOT be trying to treat him? ?I've looked up some info on the internet, but all I've been able to find are cases where the child WAS given the Flagyl and/or Vancomycin. ?I know that probiotics help, but am more concerned with why they wouldn't be giving him the Flagyl or Vancomycin. ?

I just feel awful for her! ?This is not a fun thing to go through and I couldn't even imagine what it's like for a 14-month old who's in a diaper. ?I felt like I spent the first few months pp cleaning EVERYTHING with Lysol wipes to try and prevent the spores from living for the estimated 70 days.

I do not have any personal experience but I did find this online:

Mild illness caused by C. difficile may get better if you stop taking antibiotics. More severe symptoms require treatment with a different antibiotic.

So maybe it is a mild case by the standards they go by.  Here is the site I found it on:
