DD self feeding - recipes/ ideas?

DD only wants to feed herself for lunch and dinner. If we try, she spits it out and starts crying. So I'm trying to come up with more meal ideas for her to keep mealtimes interesting. So far I've done Baby Tapas (diced cheese, diced cooked veg, diced cucumber, sultanas, etc), frittatas, omelette - usually with cheese and other veg like mushrooms/ spinach, meatballs, homemade fish fingers, homemade chicken nuggets, pasta, sandwiches, diced fruit. Gee, this actually sounds like lots but after a few days it gets old. Any other suggestions? I haven't given her any pre-prepared store bought food yet and I'd prefer not to (at the moment) except rusks. TIA!! All suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: DD self feeding - recipes/ ideas?

  • We do homemade mac and cheese, taco meat sometimes mixed in, beef stew, pizzas, shepards pie out of left over beef stew with mashed pot that are cooked enough that they can pick it and eat it, i will take the veggies and chicken out of chicken soup and give them that, hummus on pretzels or bread strips or crackers, quesadillas, pretty much anything we eat.

  • Here is the link to the finger foods wetpaint that Mrs. Saxy created, they have lots of great ideas
  • Joseph eats what we eat, and has since he was about 7m.
  • Ditto Lori, I usually just feed DS whatever we are eating.  If for some reason he can't have it (too spicy, etc.), I have a bunch of frozen turkey/veggie patties that I made and cooked.  I will heat one of those  for him.  Here is a link to the recipe.

  • I like a lot of the fingerfood ideas on wholesomebabyfood.com. DD loves the broccoli-cheese nuggets, the turkey loaf and the baked sweet potato fries.?

  • I made and froze a whole spinach lasagna, cut up in pieces.  It's a big hit.  I also made some turkey meatballs and froze them.  Mac and cheese is super easy - just cook some pasta, and heat it in a pot with some cheese and whole milk.  My DS inhales it.  I usually keep tofu in the fridge, DS likes it plain but sometimes I also make "tofu nuggets."  Depending on what we're eating for dinner, I give DS that, too - spaghetti and meat balls, beef stew, chicken and rice.  Store bought food is okay, just check the sodium content.  DS really likes the Morningstar veggie burgers.
