If you are an AE

Seriously?  Seriously?  Do you just have really low self-esteem or what?  From what I am gathering, AEs do it because they said something dumb or want to say something dumb and can't deal with others flaming the "real" them.  Uh... maybe you guys missed the boat, but this is the INTERNET.  So if you are afraid of being flamed for saying something dumb, hmmmm, I dunno, how about YOU DON"T SAY IT!

Don't get me wrong, the drama is fun to read.  But it does bother me a teeny tiny bit that sometimes I think I am talking to one person and it's really 2 people.  Even though I don't post all that much, it's still nice to know who people are and not to keep track of them+their  AE + their clique.

When I first started posting here I was shocked at how blunt and mean some people could be.  Part of me is happy that it might just be someone's evil AE, part of me is extremely creeped out.  Last night I was just scared for my kids going on the internet someday... I'm going to have to warn them that NOBODY is who they say they are. And that's sad.  Our kids will be a generation who doesn't know how to trust people.

I like you, linzpinz, but this is a silly post.  This IS the internet, therefore people will make fake AE's and say whatever crazy thing blows into thier head. It's up to you to discern between the two, not to tell people not to post something dumb.

Always be aware that this entire place is a house of cards and can come crashing down.  I have always been paranoid/overly cautious irl, and the internet is just another place to watch your back.

There was a woman on the Baby Showers board yesterday that posted literally all her medical info, her employer and her department, her first and last name, and her husband's name and employer.  AE's seem to make more sense than that sort of naivate, no?

It's one thing to hide your real self for safety reasons... quite another to have a true AE and pretend to be a completely different person while still keeping up your original self.  Especially for the purpose of causing drama on a board that is supposed to be all about our kids and family.

Oh. I don't trust anyone and that is why I don't post pics of myself or give out lots of personal info.  However, this is a board for moms talking to other moms.  And while I understand that some of you may be fat balding 50 year old men.  It's nice to know that fatmombump is really fatmombump and not chubbynestmom too.  You know what I mean?

That's a fair point.  But I have an AE.  I use it on Family Matters.  The extent of my marital/family/friends issues I wouldn't want known.  I think a lot of AE's are like that.

I guess I think an AE is okay but trolling is not?

 I agree with this as well... but there really is NO way to ever know who you are talking to on here. Everytime I see someone post with a SN reflecting their name, I honestly get nervous for them.... knowing what happened.

I guess my thinking is that other adults can't steal a pic of a baby and pretend it is them, but they could steal a pic of me and then ruin my teaching career. 

Plus I'm one of THOSE people who can't tell the difference beyween lots of babies.  So i don't think to many people I know IRL would recognize mine if they lurked on here.
