Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Sitting up/leaning forward

DD is 10 weeks old and for the past two days, has been leaning forward/trying to sit up. It is so cute! When do babies usually do this? She has great neck strength, and has since she was born (we were all shocked), of course, it gets better with time. It's so neat!

Re: Sitting up/leaning forward

  • Do you mean leaning forward from laying down?  Like trying to pull herself up to sitting?  Or trying to put her hands down while you are holding her so she can tripod?  My oldest was sitting in a tripod just over 3 months and sitting up at 3 1/2.  I think there is a pretty broad range of normal though, i've heard everything from 3 months to 8 months as being normal.

  • My dd is 6 1/2 months and still not sitting up all the way!  Most of what I've read said that it happens between 5 and 8 months, but there is a broad range of normal on either side of that.  Just depends on the baby!
  • Mine is 14 weeks and has been leaning forward from a reclined position for several weeks now.  It's a milestone to hit by the end of 2 months, and she hit it the day before her 2 month appt.  I now have a Bumbo chair to teach her to sit up on her own, but she's only tolerant of it for a few minutes at a time.  She hates tummy time, so I have to teach her to use her ab muscles another way.
