I have thrown out every single student loan bill I have ever recieved. 99% I never even opened. I am usually really responsible, but with these loans, it makes me want to puke, especially since I am pretty much a SAHM and not even using my $150,000 education :P
don't get it at all.
Re: what will you do when this catches up to you?
Yikes. Where did you see this? I must have missed it. That is not a wise decision. That will hurt your credit so badly. Ugh.

Yeah, but to just throw the bill away...even just paying a bit is better than trying to ignore it, you know?
I unfortunetely did this with some old medical bills..WORST mistake ive ever made! Seriously!!!! I dont know what the hell i was thinking.,..it definetely came back and bit me in the a**!
She should try to make tiny payments!!! even 5 freakin dollars! At least then it wont affect your credit!
Maybe she doesn't have a bit to put towards it. We don't know her financial situation. Even if she put a little towards it she would still be late and her credit would still be screwed. Eventually I am sure she will be brought to court to pay the debt or have to file for bankruptcy.
I really can't stand it when we have a FFFC and someone later in the day makes a post wanting to flame them. She said she is sick about it, I don't know why we have to make her feel worse.
OMG does she understand what happend when you MESS WITH GOVERNMENT MONEY???
OMG, OMG, OMG!
If my DH found out I did that he would leav eme because I ruined OUR credit.
You CAN negotiate very small payments but being in contact with them is the key. At the very least you she needs to pay the interest.
nobody is trying to flame her. mabye we want to help her out.
i feel sick for her. she seemed pretty flippant about it in her confession.
People like this drive me crazy. Someone loaned her $150,000 to get an education. Now she thinks that because she isn't using her education, she doesn't need to pay it back.
Eventually, there will be a court judgement and any wages (although I think it said she was SAH) or federal tax refunds can be garnished. It will also negatively impact her credit rating and effect her ability to buy a house, car or even get a credit card.
This shocked the hell out of me. Sorry, but it just seems lazy to me. There are ways to lower the payment and protect your credit - you just have to make the effort to deal with it. Just not paying is a disservice to your whole family. They have to deal with your credit too.
I don't understand when people are irresponsible with money.
?
I completely agree. I don't think someone should be flamed for their own choices, regardless of the reason they make them. It seems like she wanted to vent or something, not be made fun of. I do hope she takes the time to open at least one of the next ones that come in and call the number on it and explain her situation. They are usually really good at helping you out if you are late or can't afford to pay. They can defer your loans for economic hardship or something.?
I agree. Let it go.
The problem is, they are not bankruptable. They will NEVER go away. No statute of limitations on them. That is the sad part. Student Loan companies work with you, you legally get a 3 year freebie deferment if you ask for it (but you have to ask!) plus there are special deferments for economic hardship, maternity, going back to school, and military deployment. They will work with you IF YOU ASK. If you just don't pay, they will garnish your wages and taxes. I missed a $30 student loan payment 6 years ago and it is STILL a black mark on otherwise perfect credit.
LOL, are you new?

I really never get involved in the drama so I take nothing from it but what will help me.
you're welcome. i honestly wasn't trying to flame you.
