6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: see above which is making sleep challenging
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): all of my kids have family names for middle names, so this little lady is set for her middle name but we’ve got NOTHING for her first name
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: Has anyone started looking at pumps yet? I went on Aeroflow to see what pumps are covered and there are a bunch to choose from. I had a medela with DD1, Spectra with DD2, and Motif with DS, but ended up reusing the Spectra. I’m intrigued by the Willow or Elvie but am not sure….
@blossomingmama happy birthday! I don’t actually drink coffee, but have at least one cup of tea a day!
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: Thursday, and I need to schedule my anatomy scan for later this month!
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: Girl
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: SO exhausted this last week. And my nausea had made a weird return in the evenings, very unfortunate. Otherwise all very mild annoyances, like heartburn and BH type cramping. But also a lot more energy when I'm not exhausted! And feeling the baby move so much recently.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: my husband and I are *struggling* to come up with names for this baby. We have nothing and it's very overwhelming! Our other kids were all already named (at least a first name) by like, a month ago.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ):
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: @crizz13 yes I've been thinking about pumps for weeks! I had a medela PIS with DS1 (it was effective but I was an exclusive pumper and being tied to the wall was a nightmare so I hated it), and then used the OG Willow with DS2 and the Willow Go with DD1. I've been all over the place on what I want for this baby! I'm very much a creature of habit and it is stressful haha. My bestie with her new baby has a standard spectra, and the Eufy S1 Pro portable/in-bra. The Eufy seems really cool, and it can charge in the case! For me, it comes down to two things though. I know and have loved Willow, and it has collection cups up to 7oz (I have oversupply every time so very necessary) and I don't think any other hands-free pump does. If I were going to go away from the Willow, it would only be for the glass collection cups the Elvie has. I think after all my noodling in the end, I'm going to end up getting one pump through insurance and paying for one with my FSA, and they will likely be the Spectra Gold and the Willow Go. One to stay at the office and one at home/as a back up.
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: 10/23 for fetal echocardiogram; 10/28 for anatomy scan
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: Girl
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: Still with the heartburn and boob tenderness; RLP; also my legs are starting to cramp at night while lying down. This happened with my other daughter but not this early.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: I'm excited to experience all the fall and Halloween fun with my daughter. Except her costume is a tad *too* long so I need to figure out how to shorten it.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): We're probably purchasing a new car this week and I'm excited and also terrified.
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: NATM
@blossomingmama happy early birthday! I buy whatever bulk ground coffee is cheapest, but favorites are Dunkin, Folgers, and Kirkland (Costco) brand.
@fifilala516 oooh do you know what you're getting?? Now that we're having #4 we know a mini-van is probably happening somewhere in our 2-year plan lol. We currently have two 3-row SUVs, but I'd prefer to swap one for a Carnival or Sienna.
@fifilala516 I’m also in the market for another vehicle. We need a 15 passenger van at this point. I drive a Yukon XL and my husband won’t be able to ride with us if we don’t get something else. The only drawback is that it won’t have 4WD and it’s been so nice in the winter. It will be awhile before I get it because we will have to order it. They don’t have a ton of options here. Even SUV don’t have the middle bench seat like it need. They have the captain chairs.
@thescarletmom A Kia Sorento - fits 7, and is a little smaller than the Telluride (which was my first choice). I don’t drive so I had to defer to my husband, and he felt the Telluride was just too big.
@fifilala516 I didn't know the Sorento could seat 7 now! If we were in the market to replace with another SUV I do like the Kias. Are you thinking you are done after 2? If so I'm sure both will fit your family very comfortably! My husband also gets some deference with car choice because while I do drive, when we're together I'm passenger princess 95% of the time lol.
If you don’t already follow Kelly Stumpe on instagram @the_car_mom go check her out or her YouTube page where she reviews all cars for moms. She has 4 kiddos and totally influenced me into getting a Ford Expedition which we have had for a couple of years now and LOVE.
@crizz13 We drove one of those in Hawaii and the amount of room behind the seats is amazing. I like how the seats have the ability to move forward and back too. My Yukon seats are completely immobile as far as moving forward and back. Plus, there isn’t a lot of room between the seats. The trunk is larger so I think that space gets added to the trunk.
@fifilala516 interesting! Our Pathfinder is an "optional" third row so both are benches, but the back bench only seats two. Hope you love your new car!
@crizz13 I guess I have a new IG follow 😂 we won't buy for a while yet most likely but always good to have information!
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: repeat anatomy scan next Tuesday
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: unknown
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: moodiness, I frequently feel like crying for no reason
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: went for my anatomy scan this morning and of course baby wasn't playing ball so we couldn't find out the gender. Obviously it's not a big deal, I already booked another one for next week and there are way more important things they were able to look at (they got basically everything but the gender, which is much better than with my son where they basically ONLY got the gender and his spine). But I am just so upset and disappointed right now, which is just made worse by the fact I KNOW it's not a big deal but am upset anyway.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): my favourite coffee is from this little independent roastery, they get all their beans then roast them in house and it is just the best. And honestly for how good it is it's expensive but not too expensive. Typically I just buy kicking horse though at the grocery store for convenience
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: not right now. I had one but I can't remember.
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: occasional severe heartburn - I have to be more careful of what I eat now. Occasional mild cramps across my stomach (BH maybe???), Mild, hormonal acne.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: I've been going back to therapy to process my birth trauma with my son and it's been a helping a ton with my anxiety for this pregnancy.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): I usually like to buy beans from local roasters, but when I got pregnant I switched to Mommee Coffee beans (I found them on Amazon) because I can buy the ones that are 1/2 caff and they're low acid so it's less of a heartburn trigger.
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: Has anyone had a toddler who just out of the blue started getting terrified of baths when they previously loved them? My son recently started clinging and crying when he realized it was bathtime (and sobs continually throughout) and we cannot for the life of us figure out where this is coming from. And he is still too little to express in any spoken words what is going on.
@lizdiane456 I am so sorry you couldn't see the results on your initial anatomy scan! You're feelings are still valid even though you are going through pregnancy mood swings. and the fact that everything else looks good still doesn't invalidate your disappointment. We are there for our kiddos when they have big feelings (even if they seem silly) - we can be there for ourselves when we have big feelings, too
@lizdiane456 sometimes knowing it's not a big deal, makes the disappointment worse I think ❤️ I would have been really disappointed too, even if I was also relieved that everything else looked good! Crossing my fingers that baby cooperates next week!
@midnightatsunset our 2nd *hated* baths as a baby, scream cried if he was even near the bathroom when the water was running. Then loved them as a little toddler (1.5-2.5), then reneged on that and went back to hating them 👍 We are currently back to loving baths at 5.5, however there has been zero rhyme or reason that we can tell to any of these shifts on his end. We had to slow down the frequency of baths when he started to freak out again around 2.5-3, maybe it was one a week or only when we felt like he was genuinely dirty, because we didn't want to reinforce it traumatizing him. I think using bath bombs really helped! We used dabble & dollop's dye free ones. He got very excited to choose one and play with it while it dissolved. And letting him have a special dry hand towel near the bath that he could cover his face anytime we were putting soap or water on him (including his body) - he has some sensory stuff with baths to this day so if your little guy doesn't seem to be bothered by washing or rinsing his hair, the special face towel prob won't be a huge thing but you never know!
@thescarletmom glad we’re not the only ones! He has never had a problem with getting his face/hair wet. My next step was to try a shower and then drop frequency if he is still struggling. Thanks for the other suggestions!
@midnightatsunset I also highly recommend the strategy of "oh your cars/doll/duplos/insert water safe toy here got so dirty! We need a car wash/bath for them! Can you help me clean them up?" That had a decent success rate with eventually getting mine into the water too, even if he just started out playing with the water from outside the tub!
I remembered my question! Is anyone else having calf cramps/general leg soreness? If so what do you do for it? I'm already taking a hefty magnesium supplement per my Dr and drink 2-3L of water with electrolytes per day.
@lizdiane456 yes! I find a magnesium lotion you rub into your legs is way more helpful than the supplement, and it's a different type of magnesium. I'd maybe double check that it's not an issue to use both, but I personally had better success with the lotion last pregnancy and now that it's started again this time. I tried so much water and electrolytes, warm baths and heating pads, literally everything but mag lotion helped the most. I use the Earthley goodnight lotion on amazon!
I was waiting for my appointment today before checking in.
1.) ʙᴀʙʏ ɴᴜᴍʙᴇʀ: 8
2.) ᴅᴜᴇ ᴅᴀᴛᴇ (ᴡᴇᴇᴋꜱ+ᴅᴀʏꜱ): 17+1; 3/25
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: mid November
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: boy
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: none that stick out
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: my appointment went really well today. I ended up doing the anatomy scan today. Everything looked great. Baby is still measuring 6 days ahead and she said she had to put the earlier due date and I needed to speak to my doctor about keeping the original date. The doctor was fine keeping my original date. She was great and listened to me about why my dates are correct.
When she went over foods to avoid I asked about sushi because I eat it somewhat frequently and feel some guilt over it. She told me it was absolutely fine as long as I was getting it from a reputable place and not a gas station. Just to be mindful of mercury content of tuna. So I can go back to my weekly takeout order with zero guilt.
I feel really good about switching back to the OB and I hope I continue to like each of the doctors I see. It’s a big practice so whoever is on call will deliver.
Oh, she wants me to go for a detailed heart scan with the MFM around 22 weeks to check for heart defects since they run in our family. They will also get more detailed anatomy then too.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): I don’t have a particular brand of coffee. I do like lattes though. I can’t drink black coffee. I need some flavor and frothed milk. My husband is getting me a new coffee maker and I can’t wait to start using it. My current one has had better days.
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: Not really that much going on still. I haven't felt any kicks yet and I wish I would because I'm starting to get worried.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: We are looking at rentals to move into after our move but it's also annoying because rent is expensive and our mortgage is VERY expensive and if we can't sell our house we are stuck trying to pay both. We have been trying to sell our house since April and it's all just so stressful. We had two showings this week and an open house, and I had to bust my butt cleaning the house to be as perfect as possible multiple times. It is so much work and the kids trash it immediately. I have spent so much time cleaning the house for the showings and we still have got no offers.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): yesterday I made the king arthur flour ultimate rice krispies treats recipe and it was quite good! I think it took rice krispies treats up a level for sure.
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: I liked buying Caribou coffee when I lived in Minnesota, they had it everywhere. Now it's hard for me to find. I had some Illy coffee at a hotel and it was really good. I also had some really good coffee in Japan but sadly you can't get it here but it might have been the best coffee I have ever had.
@emeraldcity603 I'm so glad you're having a great experience with your OB office! I'm glad you made the switch because it seems like the right fit for you. Nothing better than a provider who listens!
@RoseShadow873 ugh I'm sorry about your house woes! Our neighbors moved at the beginning of the summer and their house is STILL on the market with no offers. They had to move out of state so they're stuck with both mortgages. I hope for both your sakes they sell ASAP
We had to rush our 5 yo to the ER at 7:30 tonight because he fell in the bathtub and got cut open bad on a toy. The NP who stitched him said he cut all the way through the subcutaneous fat layer... We were there for 5 hours and he needed 10 stitches 🥺 I feel like the worst mom of all time that he was playing with a toy that hurt him. He was terrified but handled it all like a champ, and I didn't puke or pass out!
@crizz13 thank you for the birthday wishes! 💞 I'm thinking of doing the Elvie this time around, since I still have my spectra corded. I had the momcozy I paid OOP for and it was very convenient being able to complete tasks not tied to a wall or having to hold the pump up. It didn't last long before a motor blew out, so I wouldn't buy that S2 again. What kind of tea do you drink daily?
@fifilala516 thank you for the early birthday wishes! 💓I'm right there with you and @lizdiane456 having leg cramps. I had one last almost all day and just tried to keep hydrating, stretching, and a heating pad and by morning it went away. Not sure what exactly did the trick. I've got to try the Kirkland brand coffee. Have you tried looking at how to do a hem by hand with needle and thread to shorten the costume a bit? I have got a KIA Sorento, doesn't have a ton of room with 3rd row up but for a family of 3 it'll due for now. It's leased so I'll be returning it in 2 more years. Some things I like some things I don't.
@lizdiane456 sorry to read about your anatomy scan. I hope the next scan you scheduled baby will cooperate just how everyone hopes and they're able to get all the angles they need and you can find out the gender too. I've got to try kicking horse coffee.
@midnightatsunset never tried Mommee Coffee, the low acidity sounds good right now with all this heartburn ❤️🔥 lately. My toddler starts to get upset when bath time comes also, mainly because he's aware bedtime is coming and would just love to delay it, if he can. If I'm the one putting him to bed and his dad says good night he always tries to pull him back in and asks, "gimme kiss dada, gimme hug" about 10x before he finally closes the door and goes. It's cute but I know what my little bean is trying to do haha. Maybe your little one knows bedtime is coming and doesn't want to? Idk 🥲
@Roseshadow873 I can only imagine how frustrating that is, especially having to clean and have no offers all while pregnant. Have you guys considered renting? We'll be in a similar boat soon with a move in the future after the baby comes, possibly end of next year *fingers crossed*. We've decided on renting so we can keep this an investment property and later make it a vacation family home. Having to pay 2 mortgages is definitely difficult and financially burdensome, so I can understand if it's not an option most people are open to, especially if the mortgage is several thousand dollars. Hawai'i real estate is a whole other ball game, very different than mainland real estate. Also, market is so tough right now. Never tried Caribou coffee, if I ever see it I'll definitely give that a go. The rice crispy treats sound yummy!
@thescarletmom I'm so sorry to read you guys went through that. Hope your little nugget is doing okay. Ugh, that must have been so tough. We do our best to keep them from harm but sometimes while we're right next to them, they can land themselves in trouble. Which toy was it? Sending hugs to you both.
@blossomingmama that is a pretty darn cute stalling tactic! The only reason we don't think he's upset about the bath time-bed time link is he rolls through the rest of the routine pretty seamlessly. Time to brush teeth? runs to the bathroom again. Story time before bed? Runs back to his room, waving goodnight to daddy on the way. We managed to make it through last night without tears or screaming but he clearly is just afraid of something about bath time. Poor kiddo.
@thescarletmom oh no, what a night! Poor little guy. I'm so sorry you guys had to go through that. It sounds like an unpredictable accident to me. I can empathize why you would feel terrible and I hope you can forgive yourself soon
@thescarletmom Ten stitches, poor thing! What toy was it? You can’t predict what a toy is capable of when kids have unexpected falls. We have had to get rid of toys after having them around because the kids get creative and suddenly something that seemed like a great toy became my worst nightmare.
Thanks everyone! It was a measuring cup 😮💨 they love making "potions" in the bath with measuring cups and spoons and things and he landed just right on the side of it. It was totally a fluke, they've played with this same thing in the bath for years, but it's dead to us now, never again. DH and I are still mentally coping with everything that happened, but our 5yo has been a trooper. The hospital staff were all extremely impressed with him (they were VERY kind and said the parents' reactions and behavior make a huge difference in how well kids handle these things, and I appreciate them for that). And I was extremely impressed with the staff. We have had bad experiences at this hospital before, so I was very nervous about going there and how they would handle an autistic child. But when it came down to a 2 minute drive, or a 15-30 minute drive for a hospital we like better or the downtown children's hospital, we went for speed. The cut being on his hip joint made me extremely nervous to have him in his car seat. Our 9yo was absolutely horrified by the entire experience and screamed for like 10 straight minutes after it happened, which naturally scared our 2yo. He was really scared for his brother, but our neighbors we are close with took him and the 2yo so DH and I could focus on DS2. They got to stay up late and watch a movie with their neighbor bestie as a distraction. It all could have been so much worse but I know it will take me a long time to get over.
