UTI home remedies, avoiding antibiotics trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole

I get UTIs frequently but avoid taking antibiotics when symptoms occur and take Mary Ruth’s kidney + bladder supplement which helps it go away. Since I’m Pregnant, I don’t take the supplement because no health provider has supported. Would love to know if anyone has taken too!

I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant and have a mild UTI but my doctor prescribed me trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole antibiotics since the usual antibiotics are resistant to the current infection. I’ve read about the risk to my child with this medication and don’t feel comfortable taking it.

Does anyone have feedback on remedies? I usually drink plenty of fluids, hibiscus, cranberry juice. Looking for any other natural ways to help! Thank you in advance!

Never during pregnancy but I've self treated a few with mass quantities of water and I usually do some cranberry juice too but I make myself constantly need to pee to flush it out and I let a solid pee build up before going. I would say at least 4× my normal water intake and I normally drink quite a bit

I have never had luck getting rid of a UTI without antibiotics, but I highly recommend cranberry pills and a good female probiotic for prevention. My Dr said I could continue both during pregnancy. I used to get UTIs multiple times a year but since I’ve started those two things, I rarely get them.

They may also help with treatment for some people!

I second @sbaby2023 on taking a daily female probiotic for treatment and prevention. I also highly recommend taking D-mannose capsules, essentially the beneficial part of cranberry but concentrated.

First, it's great that you're being cautious and looking for safe alternatives during your pregnancy. It's important for mums and mums-to-be to carefully evaluate the risk-benefit balance of any medication or supplement. You're already doing great things, like drinking plenty of fluids and cranberry juice and staying mindful of your UTI symptoms. But the best thing is to consult your doctor before trying any new remedies to ensure their safety during your pregnancy.
