2nd Trimester

Anti Anxiety Medications

Hi, first timer here and currently 19weeks.

Prior to my pregnancy, I was prescribed anti-anxiety medication and took it regularly as prescribed. She recommended that once I did get pregnant to stop taking them due to possible complications they could cause in my pregnancy. For a while I did stop, however saved my medication for post-birth.
My second trimester has been extremely difficult in terms of hormonal emotions and general stress. I have been experiencing panic attacks now and began taking a half dose of my prescription just to get some rest and relax. I feel extremely guilty and worried about how it may be affecting fetal development.
I eat a balanced diet, get my exercise, take high end prenatal vitamins regularly, drink my water, etc.
I haven’t yet told my OB but will at my next appointment. I am an emotional wreck! Anyone else having trouble with prescription meds and guilt????

Seriously call your doctors nurses line and tell them what is going on. Don't wait until your next appointment.  Please disclose this information, as they may beable to give you advice.
  • Please don’t wait!! You mental health is just as important for the baby as your physical health!!

I agree with calling your doctor as soon as you can. There are a lot of medications for anxiety out there and some are more pregnancy safe than others. Ideally you'd find an option that is low risk for baby and brings you relief.
  • I was on Zoloft prior to pregnancy and have had to restart it during the second tri due to stress and panic attacks. My doctor assured me that it was fine and actually recommended me starting back rather than endure so much unneeded stress.
  • I tried to restart mine (safe for pregnancy) because my anxiety is pretty high as well. Unfortunately, I couldn't stomach it. It made me sick as a dog. If your medication is safe and not making you sick, I would take it. I wish I could take mine!

  • I had this problem too @clt2pwm11 … I started taking mine right before I fell asleep. 🤞🏻 maybe that helps! It’s made a difference in my mental health and hormones! I was told 1st pregnancy to not take mine and struggled with post partum… so this go I am on one that is safe for pregnancy and BF. Hope you find a new one that works for you! Your mental health matters! 🤍🤍
  • @knottie30852 I wish I could but if I take mine at night, I can't sleep! It's ok. I'm really focusing on self-care and I've upped my counseling appointments. I've actually been feeling a bit better as I've prioritized myself. I plan to try again at 36 weeks which will be a week before my c section. Help me get a jump start on the post - partum swing.

Call your doctor asap! Your mental health is SO important and lots of options that should be safe for baby and you! I have always had depression and anxiety which got much worse after my first baby so started taking sertraline for post partum anxiety and it has been a life saver. When I got pregnant again they said absolutely I could continue with it and I am so relieved because my anxiety is so much better this time. Take care of yourself ❤️
