Hi there, my husband and I are having our first in February (and planning on just the one), but don't own a vehicle nor are we planning on purchasing one. I wanted to see if anyone else has gone or is considering remaining car-free, and what they have done. We bicycle pretty much everyone, and are hoping that can remain our primary form of transportation. This is a bit tricky before the first year, so I wanted to see if anyone has tried the carseat in bike trailer or cargo bike method of transporting an infant (probably 3+ months). Feel free to discuss anything else about car-freeness with a baby!
Re: Parenting car-free: Bike discussions
Congrats on the baby coming soon! 💛
We’ve been car-free with our little one and it’s totally doable. For the first few months, we stuck to walking and carriers. Around 4–5 months, we started using a bike trailer with an infant insert — super helpful and safe once they have decent head control.
Cargo bikes with car seat adapters are great too, just a bit of an investment. Main things: check local laws, start slow, and make sure baby’s super secure. You’ve got this!
