Re: UO Thursday 3.10

  • Okay, I think I'm gonna get a beating for this but... having just gone to Disney World, it's my opinion that kids under <6 don't belong there. Because:

    1) it's effing expensive and they won't remember the experience
    2) neither the parents or the kids can take full advantage of the rides because there are heigh/weight requirements
    3) it's a stroller mess!

For context, I had never been to Disney World before that time (we were poor when I was a kid), but I've known ppl who've gone with their kids <2 because "it's free for them." Like, what kind of reason is that to go to DW?

  • @acleverusername I'm with you on that one. And I always think back to core memories as a kid - those really didn't start until after 5 or 6 for me anyways. It's a lot of work for not much payoff IMO.

My UO is - I think live music/concerts music are a waste of time and money. I'd much rather listen to the album version at home, in my comfy sweats, and jam out while washing the dishes.

@mrsmtothek ooof as a music teacher I’m going to have to heartily disagree with your UO. There is nothing like a live performance. Theatre especially comes to mind. Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to the music at home but seeing it performed live is incredible and is so much more meaningful. There’s so much emotion and passion in live performance than the heavily edited and produced studio recordings.
Edited to add more. Thinking of rock music, I still feel live is better. My favorite version of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album is the live version. Give me all the live performances!

  • Haha. I also love me a great live performance. Symphony just isn't the same when experienced in the comfort of your own home.

@gingermama29 When it comes to classical music or theatre, I 100% agree. I was a ballet dancer for many years, so music is also a love of mine! My dislike applies to the experience you'd get at a rock concert or a music festival. There's probably some other factors involved too, like my anxiety around large crowds and in general liking track versions of songs I recognize on the radio. But I get what you're saying :)

  • Oooooh man! I’ve got thoughts lol!

We’re a big Disney fam and I’ve done it with little kids a bunch (sisters, nieces, my own kid in Jan). It is absolutely a shit ton of work! That part I won’t fight you on, and I do love it as an adults only trip … Disney is really fun IMO.

As for music, I want live music forever. I want to feel the music if that makes sense. That was probably the saddest part of Covid for me, not having concerts. I’ve also done crazy things like fly to LA for 26 hours for Just Like Heaven festival in 2019, and London 2x for Adele (about to be a third in July!!) I don’t love festivals the way I used to bc of being old and I can see how crowds are hard, we’ve done VIP tickets for things to offset getting more space and a calmer crowd.

So that you don’t think I’m just here to fight back… I’ll give you my UO that always has people like WTF… I find the combination of chocolate and peanut butter disgusting. Why you gotta ruin chocolate like that? I’ve only started to be ok with peanut butter in the last couple of years, but generally avoid it!
