What are you and your SO going to do for Valentine's Day this weekend? Are you V-Day haters? Just plan to use the excuse to HIO a whole bunch? Do you usually do something different that you're skipping this year thanks to the Pandemic? Tell me all about it.
We have always been low-key Valentine's Day people. The last few years DH has trekked to a butcher and made a surf and turf dinner, and then I actually shave my legs and wear something sexy. I know, I know, we are overwhelmingly romantic, and not at all cliche.
When we lived in California we used to go to our favorite restaurant for Valentine's Day and our anniversary every year- an old supper club/dive bar that had a grill in the middle, and you could order steaks and cook them yourself on the grill. They had the BEST marinated flank steaks and garlic bread, and this drink called the Sneaky Tiki that had three types of rum and a ton of fruit. They go down easy, but two of them will get you properly tipsy. We haven't found anything quite like it anywhere else, and even though DH's surf and turf is fantastic, I will be missing my flank steak and fruity rum this weekend.
We will be doing absolutely nothing special. We're not big into the holiday, not that we hate it or anything. We just have found that going out to eat tends to be a shit-show on that day, so we just do our regular thing.
@mrs_tacos “actually shave my legs” 😂😂😂 that’s amazing and also me
I’m similar to @Lisa337...don’t usually do much but also don’t hate it or have issue with those who do make a deal of it. I have no issue with people wanting to celebrate as it’s always nice to show someone you care. We usually have some wine and get some take out...so really no different than any other weekend night. 😂
@mrs_tacos wow a surf and turf from the butchers! Nice!
DH and I are also low-key. My birthday is in November, then Christmas, and then DH’s birthday is in January so I think we’re just worn out with gifts by the time Valentine’s Day comes around lol if we are doing gifts, we just do something homemade. DH once made me a little comic book (with stick figures, he’s no artist) of the story of the night we met and I love it so much. This year, we’re just having a steak dinner and we’re making our own chocolate covered strawberries and baking a chocolate cake
We don't usually do a ton, and between money being super tight and pandemic, it'll be pretty low key. We do have a couple chunks of prime rib still in the freezer from when the grocery store gave us an 8.5 POUND roast at Christmas, so we'll pull one out to cook Sunday. We'll probably start to HIO since I'll hopefully ovulate next week. And that's about it.
Our Valentine's Day tradition is roasted chicken and quinoa salad from Costco. It started in 2018, 5 months into when DH and I started dating, and I had to move apartments on Valentine's Day. We were both exhausted after the move, and had gone to Costco to return some stuff and grabbed those 2 things for food. A cheap VDay tradition was thusly born. Also, our wedding anniversary is on Feb 2, so celebrating VDay 2 weeks later doesn't make sense.
We usually have an annual trip to Palm Springs around this time, but obviously will not be doing that because of the pandemic. It's my favorite place - we always go to this deli that has corned beef and pastrami sandwiches using potato pancakes as bread. (!!)
This year, we are going to take in from a local restaurant that is doing a V-Day menu, and also satisfy the deli craving. We usually exchange small gifts, nothing big. I just request he write something nice about me on Instagram, LOL.
Fun fact: our first Valentine's Day as a couple, we had been dating 9 months. DH gives me a card that says "To the wife I adore..." cue my confusion when we both realize he bought the card in a hurry and didn't bother to read it. It worked out, though!
We don't do much because my birthday is 3 days later... and we are usually on a trip then (we typically take a trip every February). Of course, can't do it this year.
Loving all these stories/plans, ladies!💕 Our plans are also pretty simple. We are going to finally explore some books that just sit on our shelf:
Kidding!😄 V-Day will be CD1 or 2 so the naughtiest thing I will indulge in is some off-limits wine.😂
The real books we are finally cracking open tonight:
We are creating the menu tonight, grocery shopping tomorrow, and spending V-Day cooking together. It’s our goal to cook much more interesting dinners in 2021 so this is a good kick-start.❤️
Normally we would either go out somewhere, or cook something special at home that we normally don’t have time for. With everything going on, we’re just going to stay home like a normal weekend! I did just get a positive on my OPKs though, so perfect timing! Haha.
Our usual V-day is pretty chill. We started dating in late February, so a lot of times we would go out to a nice dinner the weekend after Valentine's Day when nobody else is out! My meal kit box arrived late this week so I have some fun things to try cooking. I think especially with the pandemic, our local restaurants will be slammed so maybe we'll order something really special next week.
And we'd normally share a bottle of wine or bubbly but since I'm close to O, probably not so much.
