I have written a Carol of sorts... It is called The 12 Days of Waiting sung (obviously) to the 12 days of Christmas. I tried to be as inclusive as I could

Here we go...

On the 1st day of waiting my body made for meee: 12 ovulation tests

On the 2nd day of waiting my body gave to me:11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 3rd day of waiting my body gave to mee: 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 4th day of waiting my body gave to me: 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 5th day of waiting my body gave to me: 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 6th day of waiting my body gave to me: 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 7th day of waiting my body gave to me: 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 8th day of waiting, my body gave to me: 5 daaaays of heartburn, 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 9th day of waiting, my body gave to me: 4 days of nausea, 5 days of heartburn, 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 10th day of waiting, my body gave to me: 3 early negatives, 4 days of nausea, 5 days of heartburn, 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 11th day of waiting my body got to recieve: 2 sore nipples!!! 3 early negatives, 4 days of nausea, 5 days of heartburn, 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests

On the 12th day of waiting my body made me use:  an embry implanted in my uterus..... 2 sore nipples 3 early negatives, 4 days of nausea, 5 daaaays of heartburn, 6 random mood swings, 7 doctors appointments, 8 million sperm count, 9 basal body temps, 10 cervical mucus checks, 11 needle sticks and 12 ovulation tests.

Unrelated and far less fun: 
I have been doing a lot of reading about the soon-to-be-approved COVID vaccines and the relation to TTC and pregnancy so I wanted to summarize my thoughts here for anyone curious. I don’t think there are any other healthcare worker active right now, but there may be some lurkers, and soon enough the vaccines will be widely available to everyone. 

Disclaimer for anyone who doesn’t know: I am an MD, but I don’t work in OB or MFM or anything pregnancy related. I do work with COVID patients, but I am not involved in any research. Also, much of this is my opinion based on available information, there is no real hard data yet about this vaccine and pregnancy. 

I’m putting it all in a spoiler because it is a novel. You were warned. 

The 2 vaccines that are likely to be approved first are the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines that are both mRNA vaccines. Most vaccines directly inject an antigen (dead virus, inactive virus, part of a bacteria, etc) that the body makes antibodies to. The mRNA vaccines inject a molecule of mRNA which is effectively a blueprint to make a protein. When your cells get this mRNA molecule, the usual protein making machinery of the cells starts making the protein (in this case the SARS CoV-2 spike protein) which the body recognizes as foreign and makes antibodies. After mRNA is used, it is broken down to component parts. The mRNA does not become a permanent part of the cell or a permanent part of your genetics. These will be the first of this type of vaccine to be approved for widespread use, but this type of vaccine has been studied for other viruses for years. Based on the way this type of vaccine works, there is no reason to anticipate any problems in pregnancy. There is no reason to think that the mRNA would affect a pregnancy in any way or affect fertility in any way. The problem is, pregnant women were excluded from the vaccine trials, and so we have no data. I looked a lot to see if I could find any preliminary or lab data that caused the companies to exclude pregnant women because they anticipated a problem, and I can’t find any. The society for maternal fetal medicine actually had recommended that pregnant women should be included, and currently recommends that pregnant women should be able to get the vaccine. https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.smfm.org/media/2591/SMFM_Vaccine_Statement_12-1-20_(final).pdf

Regarding getting the vaccine while TTC, this is where things get annoying. Since there is no data on pregnancy, and the earliest parts of pregnancy are the most risky for things to go massively wrong, there is no data to say that getting the vaccine while TTC is safe. Currently 2 doses are recommended 21-28 days apart, so if you decide to wait to try until getting it, keep that in mind. There is no reason to think that getting this vaccine would affect your chances of getting pregnant after, but again, no data. 

My personal opinion after looking over all the available information I could find: if you are interested in the vaccine, it is probably better to try to get it before getting pregnant. It is unclear what the rules are going to end up being, but pregnancy and breastfeeding are listed as exclusions currently, so you may not be able to get the vaccine for the duration of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Waiting would mean taking probably 2 months off because of the two doses, depending on how cautious you want to be and how the timing works out.

Thanks @fitzfizz. I’m an ER nurse. They expect us to start getting the vaccine next week. I don’t love the idea of getting it while ttc but I also don’t love the idea of getting sick with covid while pregnant. 

The side affects, particularly with the second dose suck. I attached what we were provided with in a spoiler below. Cue all the “I got covid from the vaccine” commentary.

@fitzfizz Thank you so much for all of that. You have a great way of explaining things so that my non-science mind can understand. When do you think someone like me (late 30s with no medical conditions) would be able to get it though? I was under the impression it could be a very long time

@bows22 I'll have to find the link, but there was some site in which you could enter some very basic data and it would tell you your "place in line". Supposedly I should be like #260 million in line for the entire US to get the vaccine. I have no idea if that takes distribution into consideration.

ETA: it's on the New York Times site. Might be behind a paywall. It gives you place in line in the US, your state, and your county

@inthewoods23 yeah, I did that too to see my place in line. Problem is I don't know if I'm considered an essential worker or not because I'm in retail and do work in person at the store, but it's a crafts store so maybe not essential, but the store considers us essential because we sell mask making supplies, and I don't know. I suppose each state will probably release guidelines when the second wave of vaccinations is available.

@acleverusername  First, that's not even a REAL warning reason.  Geesh.  I mean, c'mon, you gotta be like mean and hateful to Peggies to join all of us with 'real' warnings. 

Second, didn't realize TB was now offering clinical trials and publishing peer-reviewed research information from other clinical trials now?  Maybe TBGs could tell all of us IF/RPL folks where THEIR clinical trial info is so that we can get our magic babies too?

@acleverusername That is the dumbest reason I have ever heard for a warning, and there have been some dumb reasons. It also begs the question of how they knew. I can’t believe anyone actually reads all of the threads, so that means someone must have reported it, which is just pathetic.

Blergh, I know doctor's offices are under pressure right now. But everything in my message said Dr. Smith (obviously going with pseudonyms) - I selected them in the list of providers, my appointment for my physical is with them, and your response says From the Office of Dr. Smith. So why does your message say "Dr. Jones would need a reason for ordering those tests, do you have diabetes?" Dr. Jones isn't my doctor!

And I said in my first message that my obgyn wanted to see if I could get TSH, insulin, glucose tolerance, and a1c done with my physical bloodworks. I elaborated in my reply that this is my gyn's name, she diagnosed me with PCOS, and wanted me to get all the stuff done together to avoid multiple blood draws. We'll see if that's good enough for the desk person who's clearly not reading portal messages clearly. Which I feel like is a mean thing for me to say, but I'm annoyed.

@emmylou78 yes, my dr and the one she mistakenly put do. It's a prohealth office with like 8 drs. I'm sure it was an honest oversight but i was not in a good mood before getting the message so that didn't help lol.

Ugh, I just received a quarantine notice. I had to go in building for a training on Wednesday and one of the TWO people I was around tested positive with symptoms two days later. 🤬🤬🤬 I haven’t stepped foot in my school in MONTHS and the one time I HAVE to, I get exposed. I’m so upset. I was at a funeral on Friday and my parents this weekend. I obviously wore masks the whole time at school and at the funeral, but I didn’t at my parents house. I’m so pissed!

We’re you both wearing masks @chindimples04? Or around each other for long? That really stinks for you. An exposure is typically if you were in sustained contact over 15 minutes. As nurses, we aren’t considered an exposure if both people are wearing masks. Actual medical masks are better though rather than the cloth ones
