I have blue cross blue shield here in Texas. I called them a few weeks ago because I thought our deductible was 2k and not 4K, they explained how it works.. blah it’s 4K... but any who. .. I told them I was pregnant and where I would be delivering. They gave me the a price of how much it would cost and even compared it with other hospitals in the area. Mine is a little cheaper... good to know.
Today a OB nurse called with BCBS, to tell me about the Special Beginnings program. They will send you all sorts of pamphlets, and will hook you up with items you may need when you are pregnant like, blood pressure cuff, gestational diabetes help, breast pump etc. she also let me know their is a nurse on call 24/7 I could call. She also said their is a social worker, therapist etc available as well.
**In short, if you have insurance you should let them know you are pregnant and ask about what benefits are available to you. I’m sure we all pay for it in its sky high price, so let’s utilize it.
I have United Oxford Insurance and I have a deductible that is met and have nearly made my out-of-pocket max ($2k). As long as my doctors are covered under Oxford, than I owe nothing outside the deductible. I have no coinsurance. The associate at Oxford that I spoke to was very helpful in explaining the fact that I basically will not pay anything aside from copays and meeting the out-of-pocket max which I will do before November.
Oxford sent me a booklet on how to navigate pregnancy - the main takeaway is that you MUST enroll your baby within 30 days in NYS. It's worthwhile to give your carrier a call and find out what the policy is, as it varies state-by-state.
