IF Testing and Treatment w/o 7/22

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (if you've been):

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

How are things going?:

Any questions?:

GTKY: how many pairs of shoes/boots/sandals do you own and which is your favorite pair?

  • @b_1029 what a weekend it sounds like... so much cousin drama, I'm so sorry!!  Also, really sorry AF arrived for you :(  I'm glad you asked the questions you asked - I'm gonna be following the responses, because I'm curious too.  Especially about OPK's (since I don't temp) while being monitored... because the RE will do blood draws for me to determine the LH surge...hmmmm

@kpearse99 sounds like we'll be on the same protocol! I'll be sure to let you know how everything goes. I'm thinking I'll still do the OPKs because I can't give up control...but I probably won't do BBT since I know the HCG will make it higher anyway? Idk. Do you know when you'd start the letrozole and such? Or are you guys waiting to decide until after the results?

@hanshotfirst77 ; I'm sorry to hear you struggling but I understand about feeling like these negative/bitter feelings are your normal now. I don't even really remember what I was like "before" but I feel like I'm hardly ever happy anymore. I hope the next 9 days fly by for you and you can get your saline sono scheduled!

@b_1029 Some cycles I did and others I did not... though honestly it caused me more stress in regards to time of O... because my temp shifts did not always line up well with what should have been O based on trigger. So I would stress that timing was bad (when it wasn't)...

@shoogapoff hopefully since it’s just one blocked you won’t need surgery and your open one can do the trick!

@jennifer_louise my SHG showed a “possible polyp/adhesion” and that’s why I just had my hysteroscopy to remove that tissue.  The SHG showed that it was in a location that could effect proper implantation.

@b_1029 sorry about the cousin screaming match and crappy conversation… I hope you’re a special unicorn though and this is the medication that gets it done!  I don’t do OPKs when I’m being fully monitored because we’ve always done TI anyway and we just had regular sex so I didn’t risk missing anything.  I continued my BBT though because even with the trigger, I liked confirming that my temp did rise and then remained elevated with the progesterone.   If you were doing an IUI and MFI, then I would be more inclined to use OPKs because you wouldn’t want to risk missing the IUI time.  But if not, I would forego the OPKs.

@kpearse99 I’m glad you don’t need surgery and don’t have to go to IVF if that’s not for you.  We haven’t done an IUI yet just because of timing and scheduling, but I’ve done many Letrozole cycles and a few with trigger, too.  Would you go through full monitoring with the medication?

@hanshotfirst77 sorry about feeling bitter and frustrated.  I, also, feel like negative emotions are becoming my new norm and I haven’t found a way to change that yet… if you figure it out, let me know!

  • @b_1029 we can be buddies!  So AF isn't due until next week and we should be getting the results back this week on the genetic testing stuff so thankfully the timing works out well that if we decided to we could start the next cycle as the RE is suggesting.
I asked DH how he felt about this plan and what he wanted to do - ultimately he says it's my choice because it's my body and overall he hates that we need to do the IUI and that we can't just do this on our own but that he's on board with giving it a shot, especially if it will get us to our end result/goal quicker.

  • @b_1029 I'm sorry for the crappy weekend and general unhappy feeling. And fwiw I completely stopped opks and bbt once I started doing treatment and monitoring.

@kpearse99 IUI's aren't bad. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable if they can't get the catheter in. But most of mine went pretty smoothly. I've done both clomid and letrozole and had a much better experience with Letrozole, hopefully you do too, Fx!

@mokay19 If you figure it out let me know too lol. Fx you and your H come up with a plan you are comfortable with. It's hard making decisions like that.

@misshelen86 ; Fx you get into the RE soon!

  • @emeraldduchess I seem to be one of the lucky ones that I really had no symptoms from the suppositories except for some slight bloating.

Major word of advice though - buy the thicker pantiliners!! None of that ultra thin or barely there crap. I use the long length pantiliners from Always (purple box, not wrapped). Anything less and I ended up with a mess in the morning.

@emeraldduchess the lady putting in my IV on Friday got it on the THIRD try.  She blew out my hand and wrist before getting it in my arm and spraying blood everywhere haha.  So I have huge bruises up and down my arm right now!  As for progesterone, I get sooooo bloated on it and have serious water retention.  I also get thirstier and break out like a teenage boy.  I only get hot flashes from the Letrozole and not the Progesterone.  Are you doing pill suppositories or pre-loaded tubes of cream?

@inthewoods23 I have chubby feet (DH calls them Flinstone feet) so Birkenstocks are good for me haha but I thought they sold narrow and wide versions... maybe I'm mistaken though.  I just love how they have actual support/structure to them.

@jennifer_louise Birkenrock is SO appropriate haha I love it!

  • @mokay19 I believe I am doing the suppositories.  I need to lay down/stay seated for at least 30 minutes after insertion for it to be properly absorbed. OMG the IV thing is horrific and is making me want to vomit just reading that! My MIL used to do the blood draws as part of her job at a doctor's office. I don't know how she did it!

@inthewoods23 noted on the pantyliners! DH is bracing himself for the mood swings. Poor guy.

  • @emeraldduchess all the fertility pharmacys do 1 day or next day delivery so don't sweat it! I have never had an issue with getting my order on time.

@mokay19 @emeraldduchess could dehydration be a factor with having trouble with your veins? They usually didn't have a problem getting in my veins, but if I wasn't hydrated almost nothing would come out.

  • @emeraldduchess The progesterone suppositories weren't too bad for me. Mostly annoying. The symptoms mimic pregnancy a lot so sometimes it really messes with your head. Also I will second use daily panty liners! I really like the always radiant ones. Do you know which suppositories you're taking? I was on crinone a really long time ago and more recently endometrin.

@NYTino24 Good luck with your appt! My suggestion would be to write down all your questions so you don't forget.

@hanshotfirst77 I guess I don’t have much to ask! I’ve been tested for anti cardio phospholipid syndrome, I see a hematologist for a blood disorder, I’ve had an ultrasound to check lining, I know I ovulate (although my LH seems to be somewhat high through my entire cycle), and I know I have low progesterone. All they really need to do is the CD3 testing and check my left ovary, which I know gave them a hard time a couple of years ago. I know what’s covered by my insurance, so I guess I’m just hoping that I have some egg quantity and quality left.

@emeraldduchess I use the pills and insert them at night so that they for sure absorb and I don't stand up too soon after.  But when I took Crinone before (which is pre-filled tubes), I was told to take them in the morning so I aaaaalways had to wear a pad haha it was annoying.

@inthewoods23 oh I was definitely dehydrated since I couldn't drink for 8 hours before the surgery haha my mouth was sticking to itself.

@NYTino24 sorry about the temp drops!  and the surgery went well.  They found what looked like scar tissue and were able to remove it so I should have a nice, shiny uterus now!

  • @NYTino24 GL on your appointment. Is YH/partner coming with you? That's my suggestion. It wasn't required for us, but I liked having him hear everything with me. And they did a T/V US, so he got to see my uterus and ovaries, which I thought was cool.

@emeraldduchess Green ballet flats sound so fun! Have you tried tieks? I've wanted a pair, but they're pricey so I haven't gone for them yet.

@mokay19 I love birkenstocks too. I haven't bought any since high school, and still have my original pairs of clogs and sandals. DH thinks they're hideous, but I don't care!

@kpearse99 Glad your tests came back good! I hope you get a direction and plan that you and YH are okay with.

@emeraldduchess Totally agree! I'm willing to spend a fair amount on good, comfortable shoes. I'm guessing you feel like they're worth it? I almost bought the oil slick ones a while back, even though they're the priciest, bc I just loved the color!

@mokay19 Great news! Hopefully that will do the trick!
@shoogapoff No, he has to work.
@hanshotfirst77 We will do whatever it takes, except donor egg or sperm.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • @NYTino24 Aw, that's too bad, but understandable. Our appointment was pretty fast, and MH asked 0 questions during it, so, while I liked having him there for moral support, our next appointment (going over results) is the one I would prioritize if I had to.

  • @kpearse99 Glad your testing came back without any issues, although I’m sure it’s frustrating they couldn’t find a reason you aren’t KU yet. Keeping FX for you that IUI will be a success!

@hanshotfirst77 Sorry you are feeling so down. Dealing with IF is so unfair! I hope these next 9 days fly by for you and everything goes well with the move.

@inthewoods23 I hope you’re able to get things sorted out with the lupron and don’t have to pay OOP! So frustrating that you can’t just get a straight answer with how to proceed.

@mokay19 I hope you and YH are able to decide on a plan that works for you!

@emeraldduchess FX everything comes back with the karyotyping!

    @NYTino24 GL with your appointment!

Question: I need to get progesterone tested at 7 dpo. The problem is I didn’t use OPK’s this month, but I did track BBT. I figure that I O’d on CD 20 but I’m not really sure. Is it better to wait until next cycle so I have a better idea when O happened? Unfortunately my Dr won’t do the referral to an RE until I have this and the CD3 bloodwork completed.

  • @misshelen86 do they specifically require you to use OPKs to pinpoint O or does it not matter? Maybe if you just sound confident when you say you believe you ovulated on CD20 they'll take your word for it and have you come in on CD17.

But what would I know... My OB had me come in on CD21 without even asking me when I ovulated so my progesterone tests were always at like 3dpo... 😒

  • @inthewoods23 No they didn’t say I had to use OPKs. She actually ordered it as “CD21” on the req even though I told her I don’t always O on CD14. I asked her if I should just go in 7 dpo and she said yes. I feel like I should just go and see what it is, otherwise I have to wait another month before she’ll even send the consult in for the RE. I figure we can always re-test if it’s wonky..

  • @misshelen86 I'd say the same thing - go for it even if you didn't use OPKs this time. It's usually somewhat a guess on O day anyway, and as I understand it your progesterone can vary a bit from day to day (and even maybe within a day?) so one data point is only one data point anyway!

PLUS, I'm impatient and never want to wait any more than I have to (:

  • @misshelen86 I would do everything you can to not delay getting the referral to the RE!
