Re: Group 3 Check In

  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 24W, August 19

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Girl

Baby is the size of a(n): Atlantic Puffin, eggplant, or demi baguette

Upcoming Appointments: Just had one today! No weight gain (food is not appealing to me, but I am working on it)

How are you feeling?: Pretty good! Haven't vomited in a while and my appetite isn't really back, but mornings I get super hungry so I try to eat as much as I can during that time.

Rants/Raves: I feel pretty good but in the past day I have started to get achy and ughh almost third tri, damn it!

    Questions: None!

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I can't wait to see if she looks like her dad like her brothers do, or more like me. What kind of disposition she has, her personality. I can't wait to know all of the things about her! I am most anxious about our long-term mother / daughter relationship but those fears are waning the more excited I get.
  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 24+1

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Boy

Upcoming Appointments: Fetal Echo on Wednesday. 24w OB on Friday, growth scan on the 16th.

How are you feeling?: Tired. Sore. Anxious. Impatient with DH and my kids.

    Rants/Raves: Thankful I hit 24 weeks!

    Questions: Nope

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I'm most excited to be done with being pregnant! Most anxious about the health status of the baby (since we have heart issues with myself and both my kids already) and the first 3 days after the C Section, even though I know it's temporary.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? BOYYYYYYY

Baby is the size of a(n): Eggplant 1lb3oz

Upcoming Appointments: Nothing until the end of the month. We took a 2 month break from all my bloodwork so we will pick back up at my next appointment.

How are you feeling?: Totally great! Which I am very grateful for. I have heard horror stories of what women go through and I feel bad that I'm one person that never wanted to be pregnant but I feel great and I am 100% enjoying all the little things like when his feet dance on my belly when I shift positions :)

Rants/Raves: Annoyed with my once Red now Blue state thanks to liberals and this silly generation.  Sorry not sorry.  What will it take for people to admit that we have an over population of mountain lions. A couple dead kids? Idiots.

    Questions: None really.

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious?

I am excited to see my husband be a papa.  I've always said he would make a great dad and I know he will be delighted to raise a son.  I am very anxious about giving birth. It is one of my greatest fears
  • Est Due Date/ Weeks + Days: August 20th, 24 weeks and 6 days

    Baby is a: BOY!

Baby is the size of a(n): Grapefruit or Bunch of Grapes

Upcoming appointments: Ultrasound #2 this Fridah to see if we can get better pictures of the Septum and Brain

How are you feeling?: Excited. I don't know how it all works where other people are from but here in VT unless you're having complications you only get 3 ultrasounds but I get an extra since last time baby wasn't cooperating.

Rants/ Raves: Rave, last night my SO went on a rave about how happy he was that our son would have a good Mother and how he could tell from the beginning that being a Mom was my purpose. Rant, we finally became fully staffed at my job and now we are letting all of our substitutes go. So if we have an emergency, we will have nobody to cover our positions. With summer vacations coming up and eventually my maternity leave that's going to be a huge problem.

    Questions: None right now.

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious?
I am most excited about having my baby here with us. We had a lot of complications in the beginning that have resolved themselves, so I think we are just excited to finally get to meet Baby Austin. I am nervous about child birth itself, I am constantly telling SO how I still havent come to terms with the fact that I actually have to give birth. I'm also a little anxious about our dog meeting the baby for the first time. He is such a lover, but I know he will be curious because he has never seen a baby in his entire 2 years of life.

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: EDD 8/16 ; 24w3d

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? It's a surprise

Baby is the size of a(n): The Bump = Cantaloupe ; Ovia = Eggplant

Upcoming Appointments: Next appointment on 5/24 for GTT, Tdap shot, and consent forms

How are you feeling?: Pretty good right now. Just achy and some occasional heartburn still.

Rants/Raves: No rants right now. DH took DD on a play date this weekend so I got some "me" time which was nice. We also finally started a baby registry this weekend. At first I thought we wouldn't need much as we still have the crib, high chair, and baby carseat but while walking around the store, it made us realize all the smaller stuff we either threw away or it was something we probably wanted to have "new" (like new bottles).

    Questions: Not at the moment.

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I'm most excited about seeing the interactions my DD will have with her new sibling. She's gotten to a good age where she likes playing with our friends' kids a lot and is even playing by herself. I think she'll want the baby to "play" with her all the time! I'm probably the most anxious about juggling the two kids now in terms of sleep schedules, play time, and finding alone time! I'm also hoping I remember to save quality time for DD so she doesn't feel like baby #2 is 'replacing' her or anything.

@agpandme and @brianalee2984, I also am starting to build a little anxiety about childbirth as well. I will be VBAC (as long as things still look good near the end) so I probably do need to start doing some reading/research on this so I feel more prepared for a vaginal delivery. I prepared for vaginal last time until we found out DD was breech and wasn't going to turn on her own so plans changed.

I am excited for my kids to be close in age (19 months), and see my son be a big brother.  I'm sure it will come with plenty of stresses as people sure love to remind me about.  Ugh, I hate the "just you wait" people haha.

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Girl

Baby is the size of a(n): cantaloupe

Upcoming Appointments: waiting for one right now. I have my glucose screen today 😝

How are you feeling?: overall I can’t complain but I have have some SI joint discomfort lately and last night in yoga I overstretched and really aggravated the right side. It was difficult to walk for the rest of the evening because of sharp stabby pain.... I used my foam roller and have been wear my SI support belt since but it’s still pretty sore... hoping if I just take it easy for a day or two it will get better... May need to start seeing a chiropractor as well.

Rants/Raves: I always like to step on the scale at home before going to my appointment... I usually don’t weigh myself otherwise... I’m really hoping something was off with our scale because if not I’ve gained over 10lbs in the last 4 weeks! I’m currently at the weight that I was when I delivered my son at 41w 2d.... I honestly hate that it bothers me at all but it does 😔

Questions: anyone else have any tips for managing the SI joint pain?

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? Most excited just to meet her! I’m excited to be having a baby within 5 weeks of two of my best friends and for my son to meet his baby sister. I’m anxious about my son’s transition to having a sibling
  • @jmesue1030 I started 15 pounds heavier with this pregnancy, but I am very close to my weight when I delivered DD. I have been gaining a lot of weight the last two months and I don't even feel like I'm eating a crazy amount. It's hard not to let it get to you, I get it, but do know that your body is going to do what it's going to do to take care of that baby you're carrying and it's all part of normal pregnancy.

  • @jmesue1030 my SI pain was unbearable after my pregnancy with my second. I did physical therapy which was really helpful, and I had a few injections. I don't know if the injections are safe during pregnancy but I would ask. It was immediate relief and then I did a lot of exercises given to me by my orthopedist and physical therapist while I was pain free and it healed pretty well. I walk every day now to keep my muscles strong. I can't run because it acts up again, but I walk for thirty minutes everyday--either wake up early or walk before / during / after my lunch hour.
  • @EmilyA724 thank you! It’s good to know others relate... I started about 5 lbs heavier this time— they weighed me 4lbs lighter than I weighed at home so it wasn’t quite as drastic as I thought... I’m still looking to gain more than last pregnancy but I only gained 30lbs with him so whatever. I am being pretty good with eating and exercise and really want to just trust my body— I’m really good at saying that— just not immune to the pressures of society to be obsessed with weight and image. Ugh.

@lilmamabebe3 thanks for the insight! The pain seems to be getting a little better since last time. The support belt helps and I think foam rolling was good for it. I’m really hoping it doesn’t get to the point of needing PT or injections but good to know that those help significantly!

Baby is the size of a(n): parrot, bottle of wine, rutabaga

Upcoming Appointments: not till later in the month

How are you feeling?: overall fine. large and a bit tired but I'll take it.

Rants/Raves: how is it may already?!? time is flying fast. Even though I have an anterior placenta this time (again) I am feeling way more movement than i did last time which is nice

    Questions: nope

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I can't wait to see this babies personality and see how they fit into our crazy family. Not really anxious about anything.

@agpandme birth really isn't scary (I know there are the rare emergency exceptions) but overall our bodies were made to do this. Would it help to try to focus on the joy and the unforgettable moment when you get to hold that beautiful baby. It is an amazing day when they come into the world. I have had both a c-section and a vaginal delivery and they were both good experiences.

@sourlemon fx this baby has a healthy heart

@jmesue1030 I had to stop weighing myself because it was stressing me out. I know I gain a lot with every pregnancy no matter how careful I am with my diet or how active I am. Its just what my body does... but seeing the numbers creep up gets to me too.

@jmesue1030 I've been having some issues with the weight gain, but mostly it comes to mind when people start commenting on it. As a FTM I'm weighing more than I ever have. I did not expect to have this kind of reaction. I have to keep reminding myself, you're having a baby there is a real reason for the weight and really the scale is not a true measure of what is happening. I'm glad you're able to refocus, but I can really relate to those thoughts creeping in.

Upcoming Appointments: saw my OB today.

How are you feeling?: i've had really bad nausea this week, but the thinking is that it is really heartburn. I took Prilosec yesterday and today and i'm feeling a bit better, but l may have to change up my routine.

Rants/Raves: see above for the rant. I used to wake up and down a glass of water, now it hard to drink the water with my AM meds. I also developed an eye twitch, so doc ordered calcium levels. Raves: I think we've finally agreed on a paint color and will be painting the nursery this weekend.

Questions: Honestly ladies, how many of you do kegels? if you're a STM+ did you do them in other pregnancies? do they really help?

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious?  I'm excited about LO being here and like others I wonder about personality. Anxious- will I be a good parent. @jmesue1030 my weight gain is always in weird bursts like that! I'll be on a very steady lifestyle and diet habit and then every so often I'll have a weight jump that mystifies me! 10ish lbs in a month is not out of the ordinary at this stage, but I doubt you'll be gaining at that rate for the rest of the pregnancy!

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: August 16 / 24w 5d

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Boy

Baby is the size of a(n): cantaloupe

Upcoming Appointments: I'll go into the lab for my glucose test in a couple of weeks, but my next OB appt is in about 3 weeks. My doctor's office doesn't do a 1 hour glucose screening and then 3 hour test; instead it's just one 2-hour test that's make-or-break. Last time I went over only one of the three numbers by only 2 points and that gave me an automatic GD diagnosis which sucked at the time, but since it was so borderline it ended up being manageable and I was able to be discharged from the GD program a few weeks later. It sounds weird but I wouldn't mind having another borderline/mild GD diagnosis again because last time it kept the end of my pregnancy SUPER disciplined with diet and exercise and it was so good for me in the long term and with recovery.

    How are you feeling?:
Me: "ugh all this heartburn why do I have all this heartburn I do not know, what is happening, such a mystery"
Also me: *has espresso/latte for breakfast and then spends the morning sipping diluted vinegar because hippie, all that acid on an empty stomach*
Me: "I guess we'll never know"

    Rants/Raves: team snoogle forever!

Questions: @jmesue1030 my prenatal yoga teacher told us that if we're having SI joint pain to be careful to keep our legs together when we're swinging them out while getting out of the car or getting out of bed. I get very achey up in pelvic area between my legs especially when I first wake up, and keeping that stability when getting out of bed has been really helpful.

@Avrilmai last pregnancy my weekly prenatal yoga class was like 50% coordinated group kegels with breathing and it was awesome, and got me in the habit of keeping up with it on my own other times in the week. This time the yoga instructor I go to doesn't incorporate kegels in the practice so I keep meaning to start doing them regularly and I simply don't. If you can get into a routine it's definitely a good idea!

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I am DYING of excitement for those first few days/weeks of newborn surreality, when time blurs and everything is soft and smells like milk and everything else in the world falls away except for your tiny family cocoon; and having DD this time around will just add to the adventure and sweetness. I'm anxious about what comes next: the mechanics of having 2, and also a little twinge of anxiety over being 70% sure we will stop at 2, so being a little sad that it will likely be my last time with pregnancy and newborn surreality.
  • Thank you everyone for both understanding and sharing how you relate about the weight gain and for the SI pain tips! I joined the Y today so I can start swimming for exercise. I think it will be much better for my loosey goosey body than the plyometric stuff I’ve been doing.
  • @avrilmai in my first 2 pregnancies I did not do much in the way of kegals. I did fine after the twins, but after DD2 I really struggled with pelvic floor weakness. I did specific pelvic floor PT and the PT told me you have to do A LOT of kegals to make a difference (like 60+ a day) I was doing 6 sessions/day with 30-60 kegals (of different lengths) to make a difference. I have tried to still do kegals during this pregnancy because I don't want to be back to were I was before (though I suspect it might happen)

@wabash15 Birth has been the main reason why I never wanted to be pregnant.  I would have gladly raised a bunch of kids if I didn't have to squeeze them out.  We all deal with things in our own way and have our own fears.  This is one of mine. Its not just first time jitters, this is a serious phobia that I have had my entire life. I am sure in the moment I will be okay, I will enjoy this baby being here and yes the likelihood of death is minimal but it doesn't make me any less terrified.  I live very rural.  Our hospital is small.  That scares me.  I am preparing myself by educating myself and making my self very aware of the process but I am very anxious to get over that particular hurdle and enjoy this baby.

  • @Avrilmai my ankle is non-existent lol. It’s fine in the morning but gone by the end of the day.  My left is normal though.  And I feel you on the weight thing. I see the number on the scale and have a moment of freakout that I’ve never seen these numbers.  I have to tell myself that it’s all for a good reason.
  • @jmesue1030 I had a lot of SI joint pain in my last pregnancy and I’ve had some with this one too. Going to a chiropractor has really helped never!
  • @jma_18 interesting... I saw a chiropractor throughout my last pregnancy and my SI pain did get better during the last 10 weeks— I never knew if I should credit the chiro work or if it just had more to do with how my weight naturally shifted as my belly grew... it was a lot easier to make time for chiro and massage last time around though so I haven’t taken the plunge this time yet. I think my biggest thing is that I need to watch my hip stretching and forward folding in yoga... it feels so good but I have hyper mobility already and pregnancy makes me extra loosey goosey/creates that pelvic instability/pain. I hate how the support belt makes my belly look like a massive muffin top instead of a nice smooth round belly but it does help to wear it too.
  • @agpandme I was not trying to make light of your fear. I do understand that some women have a phobia.I guess in a poorly worded way I was trying to offer positive birth experiences. Society loves to scare first time moms with traumatic stories.  have you thought about a doula so that that way you have someone your comfortable with who is there for you and your DH and may be extra sensitive to your phobia?  I hope your birth experience ends up being extremely positive for you.

If you're looking for support garments, a friend just got in touch with me and strongly recommended the BLANQI belly support tank, because it's expensive but she saw that it's currently half off--she said she wore it every day of the second half of her pregnancy. I was really hesitant to spend that much on one tank top (because I've gone bananas buying maternity clothes this pregnancy, which is my second and likely my last, so really I shouldn't) but since I just started wearing my belly support band for exercising, and I only have one, and I have all summer of exercising in the heat and will probably want more than one support option, I went for it and just ordered it now.

(Now that I'm thinking of it I'll cross post this to the Deals thread.)
  • @cato99 I’ve been wondering about if the blanqi tanks are worth it! Thanks for the tip!
  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/15 (25 weeks)

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Boy!

Baby is the size of a(n): The Bump cracks me up. "On this day, your baby is as long as a size 6 women's shoe."

Upcoming Appointments: Glucose screen coming up in the next two weeks. The way my doctor does it, I don't have a specific appointment time, I just show up to the lab at the hospital somewhere in weeks 26-28 and give them my lab slip. I'm a little nervous for it even though I don't have a family history of GD or anything that puts me at higher risk for it. Then my regular 28 week appointment is on the 23rd.

How are you feeling?: For the most part, pretty good! Still getting used to this changing body and feeling like it doesn't quite belong to me anymore, but loving finally getting to feel baby move around in there. I have random tailbone pain from time to time, and I have days where I'm inexplicably tired, but I will 100% take this over how I was feeling a few months ago.

Rants/Raves: Rant: I wish maternity clothes didn't feel like a necessity. I will happily spend money all day long on other people (especially this baby!) but I hate buying things for myself because I always feel guilty about it. I've been getting by so far with just a couple maternity pieces and looser things from my non-preggo wardrobe, but I think I've finally reached the point where I need to go do some more shopping. Rave: +1 for the snoogle!

    Questions: Nothing right now.

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I'm so excited to meet this person growing inside me and see what they're like! At the same time, super anxious about it. I'm an only child and wasn't really around babies much growing up, so I feel like I'm doing this completely blind. And DH will likely be starting a new job shortly after baby is born, assuming I go full term, so I'll be flying solo with a newborn. I know I'm not the only mama who has to handle that sort of thing, but I try not to think about it too much because it triggers my anxiety and full-blown panic attacks.
  • @wabash15 thanks for the numbers, my doc and I did discuss pelvic floor PT as an option after delivery. She said that it can take 6-12 for the pelvic floor to recover.

@cato99 my OB does the 2-hr make or break glucose screening too. I was talking with a nurse friend and she said there has been recent research that it is more reliable and more practices are moving toward it. I'm just glad I only have to drink the stuff once.

@EmilyA724 we're going with a light yellow. I'm of course second-guessing every decision we've made. Lol. We've polled family and co-workers and all but one (my mom) have chosen the same color. (we painted spots on 2 walls and took pics in different lighting)

@lovelikestardust I completely understand your reluctance to buy maternity clothes. Ugh. I'm so resistant to buying things for myself, especially clothes I will wear for such a short time. Have you considered going with the more affordable options like Old Navy or even consignment shops?

  • @lovelikestardust have you looked into thrift shops or clothing swaps for gently used maternity cloths? I have gotten a lot of mine that way and saved a ton and not feel so guilty...   as for solo parenting tips... my advice is to set the bar low. In those first few weeks all you HAVE to do is feed you and the baby and change diapers. Its summer so clothing is optional for you and the baby. Its OK if the house is a mess. Everything else is a total bonus if it happens. Take it one day at a time and you will get though it.

  • @Avrilmai @wabash15 Thanks! I have a few tops from Thredup which have worked pretty well, so I'll keep checking there. I haven't found any consignment places around here that have maternity stuff though, which was surprising. I wish there were more brick and mortar places nearby with maternity clothing though. I haven't had a lot of luck with regular Old Navy stuff (which annoys me, because I'll see something and think oh that's so cute! and then it just won't sit right on me) so I'm hesitant to order maternity stuff. I know I need to just get over it and buy some things, especially since we actually can afford it, it's just a weird hangup of mine.

And thanks for the advice on taking it one day at a time and not worrying about getting extra stuff done! That definitely helps and I'll try to keep that in mind when I start going too far down the FTM anxiety rabbithole.

@lovelikestardust I totally agree with the advice from @wabash15 on setting the bar low :)  When I had my son I tried to remember that all baby really needs is to be fed, change diapers, and snuggled.  That's all they really want in the early days anyway.  Try not to worry too much about doing it "right," because what's "right" for one baby may not be "right" for yours.  Trust yourself and your baby.  You'll figure out a routine and a new normal together.  Also, they already love you and trust you regardless of whether you think you're screwing it up or not :)
  • Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Aug 17/ 24w 6 days I think

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Girl

Baby is the size of a(n): Atlantic puffin

Upcoming Appointments: ultrasounds the next two weeks then ob/mfm/sono

How are you feeling?: Tired. Always tired.

    Rants/Raves:

    Questions:

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious? I'm really just excited to see DS1 with a baby again. He's so sweet and he loves babies. I stumbled upon pictures and videos from with DD was born, and it just melts me.
  • @agpandme before I had my first son labor and delivery were a legit fear of mine. Like I'd wake up in the night mid panic attack because the fear of death, even though minimal, terrified me that much. Luckily in the moment I didn't think.about it much. I was however at a very good hospital. So that probably helped. Now I really look forward to l&d. I really hope the same happens for you.
  • @wabash15 I have thought of a doula but honestly crunchy things and people telling me what to do really just make situations like that worse for me (sorry if that is offense to anyone, I don't mean for it to be).  I'm more of the grin and bear it kind of person, very self reliant and resilient.  I handle things on my own and without whispers in my ears.  I am sure I will be fine but it really does cause me a lot of anxiety thinking about it. A life long phobia coming down to one moment.  I was there for my nephews birth and it was an amazing experience so I am keeping that in the back of my mind to pull from.  So far I am very much enjoying being pregnant and thinking of the future so all those happy thoughts are carrying me through this.  I'm petrified and excited all in one!

@Beauxbaton YES exactly! I've been having dreams of dying which really scare me because I have been known to predict things.  I talk to my therapist about these things but shes never had children either  :D
  • @agpandme doulas don't tell you what to do. They support you in the ways that you like to be supported. I also get that its not for everyone.

  • I understand. Its not exactly what I meant but it is what I wrote. I am supported best by being left alone so thats my plan.

    Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 8/22 (24 weeks + 5 days)

    Boy/Girl/finding out later? Boy

Baby is the size of a(n): cantaloupe

Upcoming Appointments: Glucose screen tomorrow. I am by no means ultra sensitive with what I eat, but I am a little nervous about ingesting 75 grams of sugar at once. I mean, that can't feel good.

How are you feeling?: Good except for the back pain. So much back pain. This was a preexisting sensitivity and has only gotten worse. I can hardly walk for 10 minutes without having to stop; partially because I'm winded but mostly because of my back.

Rants/Raves:  Oh you know, just the incredibly opaque United States healthcare system and how you have virtually no control over what you are charged for and how much.

Questions: Did anyone switch doctors this late into the pregnancy? Contemplating delivering at a different hospital that strikes me as more "individualized" / woman-friendly.

GTKY: What are you most excited about with the new baby coming? Most anxious?
Anxious about losing all sense of control and autonomy over my body during labor and delivery -- meaning, anxious about being railroaded by doctors and having things done to me that I do not want because of "policy." Most excited about holding my baby for the first time and developing that bond.
  • @law_and_little1 have you considered hiring a doula? Sounds like having someone there to help advocate for what you want would be comforting and helpful.
