Hold. @lillywonderland You're in SoCal and are a Pats fan? Why? WHY?! Don't you get tired of winning every year? I related it a lot of it being Xmas every day. Doesn't it lost its value? There's no way it can be special anymore. Second, how are you surviving with all of the rain? It hasn't stopped yet? Are you guys having mud slides? Pink eye! Blegh! Did HR ever shape up??

@nomangos23 We had the day off yesterday, windchill of -50s. But today it’s supposed to warm up pretty quickly. Funny thing is Wisconsin declared a state of emergency but Minnesota’s all like “Nah, we good” even though we’re getting the brunt of the vortex! People in this state are crazy. I wore long underwear under my jeans to work today. The only thing I didn’t have were goggles. I could feel my eye lashes starting to frost up after 5 minutes. We almost bought a boat a couple years ago but I’m glad we didn’t and saved up for the camper. We are so excited to go camping every weekend this summer! We already have some weekends booked. I’m so glad your appointment went well this week!

@lillywonderland Lol I would love it if it rained for 5 days. That would mean we had temps above 32. I can deal with the cold as long as it’s above freezing. We’re getting a smallish camper. We want one with bunk beds and enough space for both our dogs and our bird. The vintage ones are super cute but they usually don’t have any pop outs so there’s not enough space for all of us. Did you not have any symptoms with your previous pregnancy? I'm trying to anticipate MS but I'm not even sure if I'll get it.

@LJMoon6 sorry that your u/s nurse didn’t get a good shot. I had my first u/s at 5+4 and it seemed very surreal. I think I’ll feel more pregnant when we get to see the heartbeat and definitely once we tell DH’s parents and the rest of our families.
@nomangos23 my pets are clueless. I didn’t expect the cats to pick up on anything this early, but I’ve been regularly directing my dog’s head to my uterus and telling him there’s a little baby in there. He just looks at me like I’m crazy. Sorry that YH isn’t being super supportive.
@lillywonderland omg pink eye? That sucks 😫. Hope that and your cold clear up soon.

    What’s going on this week?
This has been a pretty lazy week for me. More than a third of my students were out on Monday bc of the snow, Tuesday flew by, I got yesterday and today off due to the polar vortex, and it’ll be Friday before I know it!

How far along are you? 6+4

Anyone have an appointment this week? Nope

Cravings/Symptoms? Still exhausted, boobs still sore. I got super nauseous and threw up last night, which I’m very excited about lol.

Rants/Raves/Randoms: I bought a basic treadmill on Amazon and it came yesterday! DH couldn’t get the package up the stairs and we can’t use the elevator due to the cold, so now I have to go help him. I’m lazy and don’t want to wahhhh!!

Questions? Is anyone doing NIPT? I want to because I don’t know my family history and never had the chance to do carrier screening before getting KU. ALSO... how early is too early to start wearing maternity pants? Because my bloat situation is no joke.

GTKY: this is probably an UO, but I couldn’t care less about the super bowl or football in general. BIL and his wife are having a party but I won’t be going since it’ll be too hard to hide that I’m not drinking.

@LJMoon6 Sorry about the rushed nurse =(  I also am, as I wrote in my pregnancy journal the other day, in this state of disbelief. I wonder how much of that is self-protection, though, and how much of it is--being PG is the new normal by now? Definitely a combo of both...

@themadcamel I am also excited that you threw up lol <3

@lillywonderland Also battling sickness here! I went straight the Drs second day sick bc I live... below the polar vortex & therefore had that luxury. Hope you can get to one soon to get something to combat that pink eye/etc!

@nomangos23 I feel like my lady dog has been more sniffy around my parts? So I keep wondering if she knows...

What's going on this week? Trying to decide if I should graduate in May (aka rush to finish the first draft of the last part of my dissertation in the next two weeks, which wouldn't seem impossible sans pregnancy, but--) or August (more do-able, probably works better for my diss director and committee, but makes me worried, then, that I'd be super PG by then & despite the extra time not finish at all & then not graduate til like next May or like never ahh--) <--This is anxiety talking, I will def. graduate. Also, I have a sinus infection & my IBS-D is not happy w/ the antibiotics I am on, so--not good.

How far along are you? 7w3d

Anyone have an appointment this week? Monday's my 8 week appointment!

Cravings/Symptoms? Consistently sore boobs, plus I'm freezing cold. I feel like I eat an avocado and half a banana every day.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? DH is burning some bridges with a friend group of ours we were already on rocky ground w/, and it's pissing me off. Also, he went "sober" recently "except for drinking socially", but then bought a six pack. Which--fine--I didn't tell him he had to stop drinking, he told me he was going to. But like, apparently not? He's going through a lot right now, and I don't like the bridge burning and randomness of his Big Life Choices. / I host a reading series most Thursday nights, but we have guest hosts doing it tonight so I don't have to. I like doing it, but I also def. enjoy a night off. (sux it coincides w/ being sick, but whatevs)

    Questions? Nada.

GTKY: What are your Super Bowl Sunday plans? Do you watch the game, or only support the commercials/food? I'm ABP--Anybody but the Patriots. Sad the Lombardi will no longer be in Philly after this weekend =''( IDK if anyone is having a party? I might try to have some ppl over if not? But CBS doesn't come in on our TV & I'm not sure the app will let me watch it free/without signing up for All Access? But I'm all about a Super Bowl party. Last year, I had ppl over for all the Eagles playoffs games & then flew to Philly for the game itself; two years ago, I hosted a Super Bowl party, complete w/ Super Bowl bingo and veggie wings, etc.

@LJMoon6 I had no MS at all, no cravings, and no swelling at all. Tailbone pain ~8-10wks though and I am more tired than usual (now, and during my last first tri). Basically no AF was my only symptom until I started showing/feeling baby kicks. I was a super boring pregnant lady. What kind of bird do you have? One of my old coworkers was a “bird lady” and has a beautiful African Grey Parrot...she showed me her IG and it’s basically all bird pics, LOL. Also, I felt the same way for a lot of my appointments (rushed), but I guess we have to remember that although this is our first (or 2/3/4) pregnancy, the doctors and nurses see hundreds of pregnancies a week/month. It’s not special to them anymore, LOL.

@nomangos23 long story, but I grew up in New England and didn’t transplant to SoCal until my mid 20s. Who wouldn’t love winning that much?!? Lol!! TBH, I think it’s the Brady/Belichick combo that’s been keeping the Pats so dominant. TB12 is also (arguably) one of the GOAT’s and yet he’s not the highest paid QB in the NFL, nor has been...ever in his career. That allows them to stock the offense/defense with some awesome, more expensive, players.

@themadcamel We’re doing the NIPT, and I did for DS as well. Personal preference. I liked the additional U/S (they told us he was a boy then as well!) and I also liked the knowledge that came with the NIPT.

@kagesstarshroom I would say do either May/Aug of this year. If you can handle May, go for it!! Your life will be so much busier with a newborn and I would hate to see you push off graduating for year(s).

@themadcamel This week flew by for me too! I’m glad you got excited about throwing up lol. I’m anxiously waiting for my first bout of MS. I take public transportation to work, about an hour each way, and I’m nervous I might feel sick while on the bus or train… I’m definitely doing NIPT. I’m high risk anyways so my OB mentioned it before I even got KU.

@kagesstarshroom Oh yes, my denial is definitely self-protection. And I vote for graduating in May. That way you can enjoy your summer being pregnant and not have that extra something to worry about. I’m sorry your DH is being a butt.

@lillywonderland Being a boring pregnant lady sounds pretty awesome lol. My US was at my RE's office so I would have thought they would have been more sensitive to the excitement. Idk. I just want to be done with the RE. I've only had one good experience there and it was when the really good nurse did the IUI that got me KU. We have a green cheek conure. I am by no means a crazy bird lady lol. This is more MH’s pet. Mr Oli doesn’t necessarily like me. Depends on his mood. Some days he will cuddle up close to my face but other days he’ll try to rip my face off lol. If MH’s around he’s usually worse, but if it’s just me and him we get along just fine… usually. He does talk tho. He’ll say things like, “Step up” “What” “What are you doing?” “Kisses” “I love you”

@LJMoon6 Oh no, public transit. I'm terrified my boss will ask me to travel soon and I have NO idea how I will manage. Might I make a few recommendations? If you're lucky (like dang ol @lillywonderland ) you may not even get MS! With my angel baby, I only had it in the evenings. This time I've got it from 6am - 10am then from 5pm on in the evenings.

@nomangos23 Oh yes, I wanted to get the preggie pops! I just figured I'd get them if/when I started to feel sick but now I'm thinking I might need to take a more proactive approach and order them now.

@LJMoon6 I am super pessimistic so I am wondering the same thing re: sinking in. Right now I'm just like welp...it's still early. I mean...my symptoms are real but the idea that I will have a new roommate in September (lol) hasn't quite sunk in yet.

@nomangos23 My cat, Boo, is psycho about being near me now. She is constantly on my belly or curled up as close as she can get to me. The other day she was kneading my belly for 3 minutes and I have honestly never had her do that in 7 years of having her. The other 2 cats care approximately 0%.

@themadcamel I'm opting out of NIPT but keep second guessing myself. But I have a fairly good idea of my family history. My friend is pregnant and doesn't know half her genetics so she did it.

@kagesstarshroom I did my masters, not my doctorate, but I would say rip the bandaid off. I did take time off in the middle of grad school and going back full speed was so, so hard. It feels like a good idea at the time but then you're just dreading what is coming.

    What's going on this week?
It's just so, so cold. It was -10 when I woke up yesterday. Before windchill. It hurt to breathe when I went outside, so I can't image what ya'll in the midwest have been going through.

How far along are you? 6wks + 5

Anyone have an appointment this week? I saw my midwife on Tuesday! She said everything was moving along great and that my uterus "definitely feels pregnant." She is concerned about my history as a bariatric patient, so she is going to have me see a maternal fetal specialist later on in the pregnancy to keep an eye on things. Other than that, everything is good. I have my U/S scheduled for next Wednesday.

Cravings/Symptoms? Carbs. All the carbs. And the usual exhaustion, mild nausea, and did I mention exhaustion.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? Big Rant: My boss keeps saying to me "I have no clue what everyone is doing [on the team.] And it's driving me nuts because it's not my job to tell her what everyone's priorities are for the day. The worst part is we have a project management system that clearly lays out each project, where it is, who is lead....so this is just driving me nuts. Rave: MH didn't make me shovel snow the other night and for that I am grateful.

Questions? Anyone opting out of genetic testing?

GTKY: What are your Super Bowl Sunday plans? Do you watch the game, or only support the commercials/food?
I am going to watch because I want to see that pats lose. I'm thinking about asking MH to pick up stuff to make snackies and I love the commercials.

@cmdesigner I'm glad you had a good appointment with your midwife. Looks like we are due date buddies (both 6+5!). Good luck at your u/s next week.

@LJMoon6 I am hoping it sinks in for me after our first ultrasound, but I'm not sure that will do that trick. I'm sorry your nurse wasn't great. Hopefully next time you'll get a good picture. And a camper sounds awesome!

@nomangos23 I am soooo happy your ultrasound went well. Happy tears over here. I'm sorry you are feeling so horrible! I bought lifesaver sours and they actually help the nausea a little. Ugh. I would kick DH for saying stuff like that. They can be so clueless.

@lillywonderland This has nothing to do with your post, but I was in the coolest place this week and I think you'd love it. Have you been to Eagle, Colorado? It is like a mountain bike mecca. They have over 100 miles of single track routes throughout the town. That is how kids get to school! They don't walk, they mountain bike! It was so awesome. I'm excited to go back in warmer weather. Also, I hope next week goes by quickly so your ultrasound can get here!

@kagesstarshroom I say just rip the bandaid off. I know it sucks, but it will feel so much better to get it over with. I extended my masters by a semester to finish my thesis and I wish I hadn't. I felt like I was in school forever.

    ~

What's going on this week? I was in Colorado all week for work and flew back early this morning. I am taking today off to recoup and finally have time to catch up over here. I feel a little conflicted and would love some thoughts. A few weeks ago I had a job interview (I was like 3 weeks along then). Well I finally heard back from them and they asked me to do a follow-up timed writing test today. I really want this job, but now I'm feeling conflicted. Do you think it is horrible to take a new job when you are 7 - 8 weeks along? In my mind it shouldn't really matter since I'm not to quit after maternity leave, but my mom thinks they'll be upset. I might not even get it (probably won't), but now my mind is racing with worry.

How far along are you? 6+5

Anyone have an appointment this week? u/s on Tuesday!

Cravings/Symptoms? Surprisingly I did okay this week. I was really worried I'd struggle on my work trip, but I think I was too distracted to feel too sick.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms? Nada

    Questions? Nada

GTKY: What are your Super Bowl Sunday plans? Do you watch the game, or only support the commercials/food?
DH will watch the game. I'll just be hanging out for the commercials.

Can I just say how excited I am that I get to chat with bunch of girls who like to mountain bike! @kgg2241 @lillywonderland Do you guys plan to keep biking throughout your pregnancy? I've been biking at the gym (because... polar vortex) and MH made the comment that I'm getting ready for biking this summer... But I don't know how safe that would be.

@kgg2241 *adds Eagle, Colorado to list of places we need to visit* lol. We haven’t been there, but DH had a friend visit Colorado (not sure what city) and said the mtn biking was epic. She said she was “handlebar-deep in wildflowers” on many of the trails (obvi she went in springtime). Mtn biking trails around town sounds freakin’ awesome - it sorta reminds me of Switzerland and their relationship with skiing in the winter! Also, GO FOR THE JOB!! I’m still training in my current job, but everyone has been so supportative of my pregnancy thus far (even tho I left them in a tiny lurch since I’m no longer doing lab work)! Everyone loves babies!!

@LJMoon6 Uh, yes x 1000! It’s such a fun activity, I’m sad more ladies don’t do it! So per my Dr. (not this pg, but DS’s) it’s not a good idea to do the “risky” activities (biking/skiing/horseback riding) past first tri because baby is more exposed (in first tri baby is protected by your hips and other junk in the way). I will continue to mtn bike until I’m 12ish wks or so. So, YH is sadly mistaken, you most likely will not be mtn biking this summer...at 7-8 months pregnant. Mr. Oil sounds like a hoot!! Does he ever scare you when he talks?!? I would get a little freaked out by it. My Mom’s coworker had some kind of bird and it would imitate a fire truck...like freakily good. Bahahaha!!!

@cmdesigner I mentioned it before, but we will be doing the NIPT screening, and possibly more (if it is warranted). For me, I want to have all the information I could possibly gather to be prepared for any type of scenario that could arise, whether good or bad so that I can research and make informed decisions.

@LJMoon6 ah that is awesome you mtn bike too. I'm not comfortable enough in my skill level to go while pregnant though. We have a bunch of camping trips planned this summer, and I have a feeling I'll just be hanging back at camp while everyone else goes :(. I will keep road biking though!

@lillywonderland @nomangos23 thanks for reassuring me. I think I let my mom get in my head. Maternity leave isn't (or shouldn't be) the end of the world. Now fx I actually get it.

@kgg2241 that’s great that the interview went better than you originally thought! I agree with the others; go for the job.

@kagesstarshroom definitely get it over with sooner rather than later. If you know you can handle it now, go for it! Who knows how you’ll feel in August when you’re super preggo?
