@suzycupcake - Agreed, although, I do put DD (a cute, chunky 2.5 y.o. with perpetual pigtails) in a pair of leopard leggings from time to time. I'd look like I was swallowed by a ravenous zebra if I tried
Disregarding subject titles. Pregnancy is already hard enough when there's a variety of people going through it together, but feeling like you can't share or commiserate because some people showed up and derail the intentions of a group - picking a group that sends to be more active for more views or possibility of responses, but either off-topic or making others in the group feel uncomfortable. Huge bummer.
@suzycupcake my Friday UO is that threads have a life of their own, and sometimes the discussion goes on or the BF/TW/UO/FFC or what ever shows up on non designated days... or your day gets slammed and you have no opportunity to check in till another day but still want to play/contribute....

My possibly UO... I think we need a weekly questions thread on this board like we had the weekly CS/Q thread in TTGP. I have questions that aren't limited to just FTMs or STMs but could be broader than just the weekly check-in thread so moms from other check-ins could also participate.
I agree with @wabash15 that weekday-specific threads can bleed over into the next few days if there’s a good conversation going! (I say guiltily on Friday in a Thursday thread)
@oklahomak I definitely saw a “questions thread” here a week or two ago? I think not feeling limited in the questions is a great idea. I would forward the motion that we have one questions thread that includes any and all questions: to STM, to FTM, to the community at large. I worry about having too many individual themed threads since it disperses our energies and attention!
@lilmamabebe3 - If you look in some of the other threads, you'll see posts in there that are way off-topic and some can cause major discomfort because people are coming in to post something relevant then veer way off course. Like going into a thread about food cravings and then going on a tangent about recurrent losses, it's very sad and we're all here to connect and have empathy, but there is a separate thread for that. And people going to the recurrent losses are expecting those serious discussions and connections, not unsuspecting person who is now craving Hawaiian pizza for the first time ever.

Purchasing breeded dogs makes me sad. Rescues for life!
Interestingly, while we talk about looks and makeup and judging on appearances, one of my acquaintances (a middle aged woman) has no problem letting her 13yo daughter dye her hair less traditional colors (deep red, purple, pink, etc.) but refuses to allow her to get "normal" highlights because it "sends the wrong message." WTF? If you're going to let her play with her hair color, what's wrong with a highlight? What "message" does it send that purple hair doesn't? This confuses me.
Anyway, put me on record for women should be allowed to wear whatever and not be judged for it.
Living dangerously posting in a Thursday thread on a Friday!
U/O I love cilantro and it should be on more food. Except maybe right now because green things are temporarily gross to me.
On the dog issue -- My family has owned a couple of "pure bred" (really bred for pets level) dogs but I prefer to adopt. While I understand the desire to get a particular breed I don't think it's always a guarantee the dog will be what you want temperament wise. I also think many "pure bred" dogs are not bred responsibly. Doesn't mean they all are or that I judge people who have pure bred dogs, just a personal preference to not support the breeding industry. We have three rescue mutts and the youngest, who was about a year old when we got her, grew up on the streets and has some retained dog and resource aggression issues that we've had to work on, which not everyone would want to do, and I get that. She is the sweetest dog in the world towards people.
On the ladies in the south -- I’m from the northeast and live in the southeast. I'm a professional and I get my hair cut and colored every 7-8 weeks (I have grays) and only get my nails done for special occasions (and I’ve actually started using press-ons instead). I wear makeup most of the time but have a pretty light touch with it. I spend a bit of money on my skincare because I’m over 35. From what I see I’m about in the middle in terms of other professional women in my city in what I do and spend on myself. I do know women who always have a manicure but I also know many who rarely to never wear makeup and don’t color their hair. Which is to say not everyone in the south is the same. I do understand the perspective that we need to learn to moderate what we say about appearance in front of children, especially young girls.
@zamora_spin - I'm with you on cilantro ... I looooooooooove it. Like in an unhealthy frequency and quantity. Where from and to? Are you dealing with the unstable, awful weather we are?
My family bred golden retrievers forever; I have a huge soft spot for them. However, after our mini-schnauzer and golden passed, we decided to get a shelter pet because I *hate* the puppy phase and thought we could find a great young dog for our new, growing family. We've now got a boxer/pit mix (she looks just like a brindled boxer but with the stronger pit hind legs and jaw - though you can only tell when she opens her mouth to smile or pant) and she's by-far the best dog I've ever had in my life. She and my 2.5 yo just love each other and are so good together, very loyal and playful, but respect each others' boundaries.
Another UO, gender reveal parties. To each their own. I just find it silly ... are name reveals the next trend?

@MamaK225@oklahomak YES but I was too scared to say anything hahaha. I don't know a single person in real life who has had one. Also I feel like a couple of years ago people had transitioned to say sex instead of gender but now people are back to saying gender (which I kind of get--a "sex reveal party" has a strange ring to it, even if you're on board with gender politics terminology).
I'm only having a sex reveal party because my friend is insistent on hosting it, otherwise, I wouldn't be bothered. The only thing my baby's genitalia will tell me is which name I'm choosing.
It's driving my Mom nuts, but even if it's a girl, I don't plan on dressing her in frilly things until she can vocalize and ask for it herself. Kids are messy and I don't see a point in spending a bunch of money on a fancy outfit they'll grow out of rapidly.
@oklahomak we have a questions thread starting on Sundays
@hey_clever_girl I hate pedicures too! I mean, I love the way my feet look after but they’re majorly jacked up from ingrown toenail surgery I had when I was little and all the running I do now. So I’m majorly self conscious and embarrassed
Another UO on a Friday: That Justin Timberlake song from the Trolls movie is the most annoying song ever. “Cant Stop the Feeling” or whatever it’s called. In my pre-pregnancy days, I’d leave s bar if it came on.
With all of you anti-sex reveal party people. But not with you pedicure haters. Desperately need one and would get them every month if I could afford it!
I always hate that people call it gender reveal. Gender is a social construct. It’s sex. Our only reveal will just be something small with just us since we’re alone here and we can share the video with others.
This is not in any way me advocating for reveal parties. But I have been thinking about the sex reveal vs. gender reveal terminology a lot. Although gender is a social construct, gender reveal parties are as well. People aren't revealing with a picture of a penis or vagina, they are revealing with blue vs. pink. It's all playing in to the social construct of gender. Good or bad, I actually feel like gender reveal parties are the more apt name because it is about the gender and how you plan to present your child. Now you can debate whether they should happen at all, and if playing in to the construct is damaging, but those are separate conversations.
Me 31 DH 34 TTC #1 5/13 BFP #3 5/2/14 DD born 1/19/15 NTNP #2 8/17 BFP 12/13/18 ED 8/21/19
I confess, we had a sex reveal party with our son — but it was because my best friend insisted. I’m a gigantic social justice snowflake (and proud of it), so I was very aware of the ickiness of some of the themes. Some of the grossest ones I saw on Pinterest were “Bows vs. Bowties ,” “Boots vs. Ballet Slippers,” etc. Also very aware of sex vs. gender (gender is a social construct & I do not subscribe to gender stereotypes nor do I push them on my kids).
So when we did ours, I decided to do a Game of Thrones-themed party and make it based on characters — so we did Khal or Khaleesi? We had GoT themed snacks, decorations, etc.
We were going to find out baby’s sex anyway, so this was just a fun way to share the experience with our close friends and family. When we did the big reveal, my best friend had bought a dragon piñata and we hit it to reveal pink or blue candy inside. (Still not my fave, I don’t like pink/blue BS, but we couldn’t think of any good ideas. Plus the kids got real excited for candy.)
So anyway, tl;dr, I think if done in a non-gender stereotyping way, sex reveal parties can be okay and fun.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Well a Game of Thrones reveal sounds like a fun party @hey_clever_girl.
We went to a gender reveal party (@emilya724 I agree I usually use the terminology in this context - in part because while sex is the correct word sex reveal sounds a bit weird) where the parents already knew the sex. Basically it was a reveal to friends who, frankly, were only there to see the fun of the parents’ reaction to the news. It was extremely lame. I’ve also had friends and friends who have had extreme gender disappointment - my sister’s best friend had trouble holding back tears when her baby was not the sex she expected at her party.
tl;dr If you already know the sex OR will be disappointed if it’s not a particular sex please don’t have a gender reveal party. Otherwise knock yourself out.
I agree that gender / sex reveals as a whole are gross and stupid. They are even dumber if the parents know ahead of time. My least favorite that I ever seen was bullets or bows. So trashy. But I do think if your crowd is super tight and they want one then do you and you’re not harming anyone by revealing with your friends and family. The themes are more what annoy me.
so this is weird. But I have nowhere else to share it. My mom and I did not have a great relationship. The last five years of her life we had zero relationship. After she died a lot of weird freaky shit started happening in my house. I’m talking dark, scary stuff. I involved a medium and we got it to stop. Since I’ve been pregnant, it’s been happening again. DS2 keeps saying he’s scared of (my mom’s first name). We know no one else with her first name. I’m having dreams about her almost every night. She met DS1 once when he was a week old and never knew about DS2 from me (she knew from my brothers but I didn’t speak to her).
Im freaking out. I don’t want to deal with this shit while I’m pregnant and sick. Or at all. And you can side eye the hell out of me but I’m telling you, it’s physical scary stuff not just my mind being afraid.
@lilmamabebe3 Maybe we can move this to the randoms thread? I’m not side eyeing at all, actually very curious what sort of dark scary stuff has happened! I’m sorry that it’s genuinely freaking you out - I don’t blame you one bit! Could it help to contact a medium again?
I second @dogmomma096, I'm curious about what's going on too, @lilmamabebe3. Also, solidarity, because I too had a bad relationship with my mother. She died 7 years ago this past December.
