Re: Symptoms - December

  • @lovesclimbing That’s really interesting, wish my doctor did that. Maybe it is a midwife thing as you say? My doc just feels for how high my uterus is, and does a very quick check of baby’s heartbeat, otherwise there’s not much else belly touching. She’s never mentioned baby’s position, nor have I thought to ask, but I’ll ask next time 😁.

  • @navete With DS1 I had lots of ultrasounds at the end due to HBP (around 34-35 weeks) so I knew he was head down. With this pregnancy I know for a few days he was head down only because all the movements I was feeling were very high and then I have felt hiccups one time and they were very low. It reminds me of my first because he was the same way kicks were high and hiccups were down in my pelvis. I’m not sure when they “settle in” for the long haul and stop moving positions so much though.
  • @navete My midwife checks too. If you want to try for yourself there are some good tutorials online for belly mapping. For my daughter she was head down and I thought that was enough, but the actual position is really important. I ended up not being able to deliver her vaginally, and part of the problem was that she was face up (posterior). I highly recommend looking into exercises and stretches for optimal position to give yourself the best chance at an easy delivery. My midwife recommended I start doing them around 20 weeks.
  • @navete I have had a lot of USs for these twins!! And he has moved during my ultrasounds so I can actually see where he is and compare to what it feels like so I’ve been able to figure it out. With practice you can feel a head or a butt and then based on movement sort of figure out where the rest of the parts are. Typically Doppler is strongest right over the head too.

  • I've been under midwife care this pregnancy and haven't had any of them check baby's positioning. However, I just had my 24 week appointment, so @navete it's still early enough that baby could be head down now and then flip breech and back again before we actually deliver.

It's just a guess, but based on movements low and to the right (and the sharp pain when my midwife jammed the doppler into what I assume is her back on my left) I think this LO is hanging out head up on my left side, facing the right. All movements lately have been either low, into my bladder, or slightly higher on the right side. That's just my guess, and LO was literally folded in half with her feet around her ears for the AS so I could very well be wrong. I intend to ask about exercises like spinning babies, but there's one called the forward leaning inversion that I've started doing which they recommend for any position, as long as you're cleared for inversions. https://spinningbabies.com/learn-more/techniques/the-fantastic-four/forward-leaning-inversion/

  • @navete I’ve been guessing based on her kicks, they feel quite a bit stronger  to me than other movements. She was breach at the AS, but my doctor hasn’t checked her position otherwise.
  • @navete LO was breech during our ultrasound at 21 weeks and I had a feeling she was in a different position based on where I was feeling movement compared to DD1. At this point I'm almost 28 weeks and can definitely tell when she is kicking down or if she has moved to kicking up, because her kicks are so strong. My practitioners won't check to see if she is head down until about 36 weeks but by then LOs are so big it's easier to tell anyways.

If that's all she's touching your belly, she's definitely not checking position. My midwives measure the fundus and do the heartbeat and then spend 30 seconds or a minute palpating all over my belly to feel the position. And they feel right above the pelvis bone, too. In theory, the head should be able to be felt right there in the center.

    >snip<
FWIW, the first time they checked positioning for me was at 25 weeks and she was fairly certain on positioning, but then at 27 weeks, she wasn't sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just too early.
  • Thanks for all the feedback ladies! This was something I didn’t even have on my radar and I’m so glad that it is now. I’ll check out baby positioning exercises and definitely talk to my doctor and doula about it next time I see them (kinda wishing I had a midwife lol).
  • It's so weird, every time after work when I go down the stairs to my car I'm gagging. I have to then sit in the car and cough it out before I can leave. There is no smell or anything (and I haven't thrown up at all this pregnancy and only once during my previous one).
Also, I have a sensation similar to letdown in my breasts from time to time. It's a recent development. Anyone else? Would be crazy for my milk to come in so early! With DS I wasn't even sure I could breastfeed him because I didn't feel anything the whole pregnancy!
  • @mihaelams1 I don’t have much to add about the gagging except I’m sorry you are dealing with that. However I can say that I have found dried colostrum on my nipples in the last couple weeks. Only when I’m in the bathtub so far thankfully! I breastfed DS for a year and just stopped in April before getting pregnant so I kinda thought that might be why? I could be way wrong.
  • My OB just started checking baby's position at my appointment this week (27 weeks) even though she said it's a bit early to be too confident. She thinks baby was head down. She even records it on my file. Definitely ask, if you're 25+ weeks, if your Dr/OB/midwife will tell you the position.
Even though my OB said she's head down, I've been feeling ALL movements down low, across my whole belly, inches under my belly button. My instinct was that baby is lying transverse down there because I haven't felt any movement above my belly button... I could be wrong though! I'm going to check out that baby mapping site that a PP mentioned.
  • @mihaelams1 So I had a similar feeling on one side last night. I didn’t think too much of it but it did feel like that let down sensation. I don’t know. Haven’t breastfed in 3 years but maybe the breasts are prepping for baby.

  • @novelblessings Yes, more than 2.5 years here since my milk dried out. But I definitely remember the letdown sensation, that's why it was so strange to feel it now. Let's see if it repeats the next few days as well.
  • @novelblessings @mihaelams1 I've felt what seemed like a letdown a couple times, but each time I check to see if I need to start wearing pads I haven't actually leaked. I have had some kind of crusty dried colostrum or oil on my nipples, but nothing that would require a pad. It's probably just our bodies practicing.

  • Today has been a weird day. I’ve been feeling very run down all day. I dozed on the couch mid
morning and took another nap mid-afternoon. I’ve also been feeling mildly nauseated on and off all day. I feel like I’ve regressed to 1st trimester again. ☹️
  • Highly recommend  a glass of prune juice a day! Worked for me within hours vs. The colace which could take days.
  • @purpleteacher82 a really invasive question, but could you be a little backed up? I feel like my whole day was the same way: tired, not feeling quite right, not really hungry, and gassy and I was finally able to sit and relax and poop and I’m still not 100% but my stomach at least feels better.

I started my day a little dehydrated and had a late start to drinking water and then had a lot going on today and I feel like it all caught up to me.

  • I’ve been recovering from a sore throat that developed into a bad cough all week. With all the coughing, I’ve been horrified to realize that the more severe coughing fits cause some incontinence 😳🙈. It’s not much at all, just a little dribble but I am starting to wear panty liners just in case it gets worse. I’d read that this would happen but I naively hoped it wouldn’t happen to me, or that it would happen very late lol. Oh well 🤪
  • @meggyme Thanks for the suggestion. Luckily, I’ve been pretty regular on that front. I am feeling a bit better after getting another night of sleep. I had a busy day on Saturday and have been having some minor cold symptoms for a few days, so I’m wondering if it was just my body’s way of telling me to slow down for a day.
  • I went for my typical 3 mile walk yesterday and I had really uncomfortable BH the whole time. I was exhausted by the time I got home, and ended up laying down for a good hour afterwards. I think my body is telling me it’s time to slow down a little too. I am not really a slow down kind of person, so it’s hard for me to accept, but my body has other plans.
  • @maggiemadeit Same here! I had plans to be so productive yesterday and nothing got done. I’m
trying so hard to give myself grace and relax when I feel like I need it. It can be hard though!
  •  Anyone else experiencing cramping after sex? I've read that it's normal (I will bring it up at mymy appointment this week) but it's really putting a damper on my libido.
  • @maggiemadeit I've hit that point too. Just getting DD ready and to her recital, then going to lunch Saturday wiped me out for the rest of the weekend. Yesterday I laid around until almost noon, did a few things, then passed out for a good hour later in the day. Luckily DH did all the housework for me this weekend because I did a lot of napping.

Forgive me, I have not ventured in here...

    SI Joint Pain
This is my 3rd pregnancy and 3rd time dealing with SI joint pain.  With my first it showed up around 20 weeks after a cross country drive but resolved itself until it came back at the end of pregnancy.  With my second it resolved when I stepped on a toy car and fell flat on my back on a tile floor with a lot of force... it knocked my SI joints in place but also landed me in the hospital for 4 hours of monitoring, I don't care to repeat that.  This time It's shown up early (twins) and was coming and going but this week is constant, any time i get up or down turn my leg wrong, or forget and cross my right leg or sit with it under me.

One symptom I've been battling for weeks now that is new to me is the inability to PEE unless I put my feet on a squatty potty!  If my feet are up I can empty my bladder, if they aren't it's a problem.  So if anyone else is dealing with this... buy squatty potty (seriously).

    Varicose Veins
I have a horrible varicose vein in my right let, it starts in my groin and you extends to my calf.  If anyone has found compression stockings they actually think are comfortable, I'm all ears.  My left leg is fine, but my right is destroyed :/.  Right now I'm wearing a footless one on just my right leg when I'm up on my feet or out of the house... wearing it on both legs makes me 100 times more uncomfortable.

Try talking to your dr and getting fitted for custom compression. Your insurance might conver it. I have a lymphatic disorder called Lymphedema. I wear custom compression stockings from thigh down but they make all sorts of different ones.
  • @navete Don't worry, you're not alone. I had a terrible cold and cough for nearly 3 weeks and about halfway thru my body had had all the coughing it could handle :anguished: Fortunately the coughing has tapered off and so have the leaks...
  • Hi all! I haven’t been on here much, lurking here and there. I have bad service at my house and have also just been trying to stay off my phone, so i hope nobody noticed and thinks I was upset or anything! That happened in my last baby group and the ladies in that group were not happy with the mom who dissapeared

anyway, symptoms! I have had the heart racing, flip flop feeling since first tri and they even found it on an EKG when I went in for what happened to be vertigo. They said they would do an ultrasound if it got worse, but it hasn’t so I don’t think they are concerned.

Other than that, I’m 25 weeks and feel huge. Can’t breathe, sleep, digest, empty my bladder or poop haha. Gas ex really helps the bloated feeling at night though. And tums.

I’ve had a cold this past week and I feel like such a whiny baby, but it’s miserable. I extra can’t breathe or sleep and the only position that’s remotely comfortable is on my back (which we can’t do obviously. It makes me feel sick anyway). I decided to prop up my pillows and sleep halfway on back/side and that’s helped. I don’t feel sick and I can breathe better. Being pregnant and sick is the absolute worst ever.
  • @mamakeeg I don’t think anyone is worried about posting frequency. Welcome back!!

  • @mamakeeg Welcome back and hope you feel better soon! Being sick sucks so much more when pregnant.
  • Random question. 28 weeks, 2 days here. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. So more recently when I get punched or kicked by DD2 it is pretty extreme and sometimes it hurts. I frequently startle or jump. I never experienced this with DD1, maybe it’s just where she is positioned but it’s uncomfortable as heck because she moves constantly!

  • @novelblessings I get this as well with DS2, even if I'm only 26w3d. Yesterday he gave me a punch on the left side that hurt really bad. Must have been his elbow, judging by the way he's positioned (breech). The leg kicks right as I'm writing this are also quite painful. I'm wondering if it's because as STM our uterus is more stretched out?
  • @mihaelams1 glad to hear I’m not the only one. I keep thinking it can only get worse as she keeps getting bigger!

  • Update on the SI joint pain.  Sunday it miraculously went away, must have slipped back into joint or something.  Go figure that I ordered an SI lock belt on Saturday.  https://www.serola.net/serola-sacroiliac-belt

I haven't had a chance to use it, but at least I have it on hand for when it inevitably comes back.

  • @mayoduck i have had the cramping after sex as well. i think its from the uterus contracting from orgasm..pretty normal i have heard.
  • @zionsmama85 Thank you for answering! I was beginning to think I asked a really awkward question. lol. Glad I'm not alone, but it sure is unpleasant! I don't want to do anything afterwards.

@mayoduck I don't think there is such a thing as an awkward question on this board...we talk about too much personal stuff for it to be awkward.

  • @mayoduck I almost always get a few BH contractions after sex.

@Pooka8 Glad you are getting some relief. Mine seems to come and go like that, and I always chalk it up to things slipping back into position.
  • I woke up this morning with an aching feeling in my lower abdomen. It’s basically in the lower part of my uterus just above my pelvic bone. It almost feels like mild menstrual cramps and has persisted all day. Has anyone had this before? This is a new one for me. I have been having a lot more RLP this week, especially when sneezing and coughing so I thought that’s what it was at first. After it lasting all day, I’m not so sure. I don’t know if I should be concerned or not.
  • Good and not so good news today. They are not concerned about anemia at this time. But it appears my blood pressure is up from my normal. I had this issue last time but it occurred a little later. I think I’m headed for another early induction. ☹️

  • @novelblessings I had blood pressures issues last time so I know exactly how you feel. I’m sorry you are dealing with it again. I was at my regular doctor on Tuesday this week and mine was a little elevated luckily back at my midwives on Thursday it was back down.
