Blood work not matching ultrasound?

We got a BFP earlier this week on Monday, 11/12. I’ve estimated based on my last period, I might be around 7wks? However I’m pretty irregular so I’m not sure. I’ve had minimal headaches, some soreness in my breasts, fatigue, excessive bloating, and increased appetite over the past couple weeks but no morning sickness or nausea. Today, I woke up with minimal bleeding. Enough to be startled when wiping, not enough to warrant a pad. I went to the bathroom a few more times, and twice I saw clots in the toilet with some blood. I went in for blood work and an transvaginal US. The ultrasound didn’t show anything - absolutely nothing. I know this can be normal for early pregnancy, especially when we aren’t positive on how far along I actually am. After the ultrasound, I was given a towel to clean myself up and had a good amount of blood on that, which scared the crap out of me. I know it’s normal to experience some after having something up there, but it was startling. After my appt, I got a call from the office saying that the Dr wants to come in tomorrow morning to discuss the results. They said the ultrasound and blood work don’t match, but I didn’t ask how they didn’t match. I called and left a voicemail asking if I could possibly get the HCG numbers from the results, but haven’t gotten word back. I’ve almost convinced myself it’s a miscarriage, but just need someone to confirm it for me. My SO is being so optimistic (bless his heart) but my gut just tells me something is wrong. This is my first pregnancy, so I have no idea what to expect from here. Anyone else ever experience something like this?

EDIT: got the call back. Blood work shows HCG levels to be at about 100. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Re: Blood work not matching ultrasound?

  • This is very similar to what happened to me in August when I miscarried. My fingers are crossed that this is not the case for you, but it sounds like you are in the right headspace just in case. Sending you all the positive baby vibes! Good luck.
  • This is also very similar to what happened to me when I miscarried last month. HCG was 90. I'm hoping and praying this ends differently for you! Huge hugs!  ❤️ ❤️

  • I had blood enough to startle me in the bathroom before I miscarried as well last year :( but again others do bleed during pregnancy. I wish you the best
  • @coco2787 is right. Your cycles are irregular so it truly may be just too early to see anything, especially if you had not tested earlier and gotten a positive.

In my case where I miscarried my BFP was 2wks before my appt.

  • Still going to the doctors tomorrow. We’ll find out more soon enough!
  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. Good luck at the doctor's appointment today. Hopefully you will at least get some answers.
  • I'm so sorry to see this update :(   If this does indeed end up being a loss I recommend checking out the TTCAL board on here or the TTCAL thread on the Trying to Get Pregnant board.  The ladies over there are great and got me through some of my darkest days.

  • Thank you again to everyone. The appt today left us still wondering for certain. We’ll be doing more blood work next week to see whether or not HCG levels go up. I’m not expecting them too, but you never know.   I think SO is holding onto more hope. I can only think of how hard it’ll be on him if my gut feeling about miscarrying is right 😓
  • Im so sorry, that is incredibly frustrating and the waiting is so hard.  Hang in there mama  <3
  • Praying for a miracle!
  • Praying everything works out. I’m so sorry. I know how hard the waiting is.

  • Popping back on to mention that my cervix is still closed - the dr says it could mean the miscarriage took place and the cervix closed again really quickly, or I am experiencing a bleed from somewhere else/maybe a threatened MC. I guess time will tell! I took another HPT and the line was definitely faint in comparison to my others, so I’m still on the fence. Thank you for the kind words and wishes! I’m headed over to the MC & Lisa forums to see if anyone there has had a similar experience as well
  • @a_hangli47 still praying for you!
