Infertility

Someone lead me down the right road

Hello Everyone.. I am new to this board so please forgive me in advance if I sound ignorant. I am going to be 35 at the end of the year and I’ve been trying to get pregnant for over a year. My OBGYN who’s been my doctor since I was 16 tells me I am not the problem based on my temperature readings. My boyfriend had a sperm test done. When I went to my doctor the other day he told me my boyfriend was boyfriend was borderline infertile. Not the news I was expecting....fast forward to today when we went to the follow up with urologist.  He says my boyfriend is fine and to keep trying. I have no idea where to go from here. If I posted this in wrong board then I am so sorry. I’m just hoping someone can give me some advice. Thank you

Re: Someone lead me down the right road

  • Hi.  I'm 35 too.  Last year I was trying to conceive with my husband, and I had a positive LH (ovulation) test strip every 24 days like clockwork.  I saw an ob gyn after only 6 months, and moved on to a fertility clinic after wasting only 9 more months.
Personally, I think that the best thing you can do is get a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist from whoever will give you one.  Those folks are serious.  They will test if your tubes are open.  They will test your thyroid, AMH, estrogen, prolactin, FSH, and progesterone levels.  They will do seman analysis a couple months apart, because they realize that stress can cause a bad sample and that things change seasonally.  My ob gyn actually did all these tests for me and gave me a diagnosis (blocked tubes); but things move so much faster and are so much easier with a doctor who actually specializes in infertility.  If I could change one thing, it would be to get back the 9 months I wasted with a sweet, kind ob gyn who only dabbled in infertility.
Good luck, honey.  There are many ladies here who can offer wisdom from their experience.
  • @wishing83 - see a specialist! I can't believe your doctor is giving you advice based on temperature readings. Ask for a referral, get the bloodwork done (different hormone levels), and see a specialist for more testing.

    Good luck!

  • @wishing83 Ditto what the others have said. You’ve been trying for over a year with no success; definitely get an appointment with an RE. BTW feel free to also join the Trouble TTC board. Both this and that one are fantastic, but this one tends to get broken up into threads for specific treatments so if you’re currently in the pondering testing phase the weekly check-in threads in TTTC can be nice since it’s everyone at all different stages. Good luck!
  • Thank you everyone. I am researching doctors right now and hoping to make an appointment soon.
  • @wishing83 Just to reiterate, definitely head to an RE! You’ll feel SO much better working with a specialist and not just an OB. Not sure why your OB is telling you everything is fine just by your temps. That’s very bizarre to me. Keep us updated!!
  • I waited 3 years to go over to an RE (and my OB was like 'all is fine!' too haha). 2 years later, baby girl. Get thyself to the RE!
