Re: Weekend Randoms 9/8

  • DD1 screamed so loud for her dad this morning that she woke up DD2. Before 6. And, of course, DH got to crawl into bed with DD1 and go back to sleep, while I had to manage DD2. Grrr...

We have a whole unplanned day ahead of us. I'm tempted to just let DD1 sit on her iPad all morning so I can clean. We've been renovating and there are parts of the house that are a disaster and still covered in dust that I haven't managed to get to. But it's better for everyone if we get out of the house for a bit in the morning.

  • @k2k2tog no judgement here if you let your DD play on the ipad !

I went over a pothole and spilled an entire coffee in the front seat of my car yesterday morning and after a terrible day at work, I didn't have it in me to clean it out. so my day is going to consist of detailing my disastorous car, going to the insurance place and adding additional coverage and cleaning my house for yet another showing that our realtor scheduled with only giving us 12 hours notice.

  • @k2k2tog Early wakeups are the WORST. I used to be able to just nurse DD back to sleep, but that option is gone now that she’s weaned. Hope you can get some cleaning done and out of the house for a bit!

@kels0091 Ugh sorry about your car. Having your house on the market must be stressful- can’t imagine having to be out with only a couple hours notice.

The weather finally cooled off a bit, so we’re taking DD to a farm nearby. They have a mini corn maze with hay barrels for little ones, so I think she’ll have a blast. And obviously getting Apple cider donuts. Tomorrow we have lunch at my parents.. my dad asked us to bring wine, so that should be fun trying to fake drink/not be super obvious.

  • @k2k2tog totally feel for you. We renovated last year when DD was 11 mos- she was still belly crawling everywhere and it was so dusty and gross. Not fun.

@secicc12 love me a farm festival! It’s raininfg here otherwise we’d be doing the same.

My MIL is here this weekend- she’s a lot to handle but DD loves her and DH and I are sneaking away for a night tonight. We haven’t done this in forever so I’m really looking forward to it! Especially with this pregnancy news this week, it’ll be good to bond and decompress a bit.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • @k2k2tog I’m so sorry for that early a wake up! That’s the last thing I want on a Saturday morning. We renovated the house we are in now, and it is such a messy process! I don’t want to do it again lol.

@kels0091 oh man, that sounds like something that would happen to me too. My clumsy self probably would have knocked it over myself. Sorry you have to spend the time cleaning today

  • I am hopeful going to have a boring weekend of binge watching all the shows on my DVR. And I’m on call tonight so fingers crossed I don’t get called in because I would really like to sleep all night. And tomorrow watching some football (Go Pats!).

  • DD and I both still have this freaking cold. We were supposed to go to a picnic with our hospital mommies group this morning, but I sure as sh*t won't be the mom that shows up and gets everyone else and their babies sick. Especially since there are numerous ladies pregnant with #2. I am tempted to go shopping, but I also feel like I should just stay home and rest. I do have a haircut appointment this afternoon that I've had for 3 months, so maybe one outing is enough for the day?

@k2k2tog I watched movies in bed with DD all day yesterday in an attempt to get her to rest to work on clearing this cold. And we'll probably do the same thing today! No shame in utilizing screen time for your benefit.

My parents just came by for a visit on their way to a friend’s house (they live 3.5 hrs away) so we told them we’re expecting again! My mom was so excited. They didn’t get to hear in person last time so it was nice getting to this time. Now I’m about to nap while DS does and then get ready to head out to dinner with some friends to celebrate H’s bday. We’re telling our friends tonight too!

Edit it cause I can’t type lol

@zuuls_mom is awesome that you got to tell them in person! My in laws live in a different state, so we just told them via phone.

@poshspice summer colds are the worst! Hope you both feel better soon!

A little rant for today. My cousins wife just had her baby and turns out she used one of our favorite names. And the middle name to go with it! I have only told one person, so I don't think it was intentional but I'm so mad! I just can't believe it. So now we have to decide if we lose out on our favorite name, or just use the name anyway and have two girls at family parties with the same name. Crappy choices. And then my husband got mad at me for being upset about it, which made it even worse. I know we have time to figure it out and it may not even be a girl, but I'm still really annoyed...

  • @sagems10 I'd be upset about that too. I think you should just go for the name. How often do you see them? If you really love it, then why not?

DD1 had an epic meltdown in Home Depot because we wouldn't get her any candy. Got home and discovered our dog, who has been having digestion problems lately, desperately needed a bath. Like, the most disgusting kind of bath imaginable. I feel like I hardly did anything today and I'm completely wiped out.

  • @k2k2tog thanks for the understanding. We see them maybe 6 times a year or so? So it wouldn't be terrible. I'm just floored that they used the first and middle, so if we use the name it will look like we copied her. We will figure it out.  Like I said, DH sees absolutely no reason to be upset and thinks we should just use it anyway if it feels right. I guess we'll see!

Sorry about the frustrating day! It's always the cherry on top to clean up dog mess.

  • @sagems10 You are totally justified in your feelings. I remember when my SIL announced the name for their son and it was one of my top boy names. I was SO upset even though I wasn’t even pregnant at the time. I say just use the name - even if they do think you “copied” them, who cares? It’s the name you love! Also I feel like guys don’t understand this stuff ha - DH shouldn’t be upset with you.

@k2k2tog Oh girl that sounds rough. Why do dogs always seem to choose the worst time to need attention? My dog always seems to get sick right when I’m dealing with DD. Either that or at 3 am. Sorry about the meltdown..I feel like we are starting to venture into that territory and I’m not looking forward to it.

  • @secicc12 in his defence, it's kind of our fault... he's normally on a raw food diet but, since we spent the summer displaced by renovations (we were living with my parents) we ran out and didn't get more for him right away. Eating just dry food really messes with him.

DD1's meltdown was kind of our fault too... she just finished her first week of junior kindergarten and we'd been warned that the first weekend is pretty much a right-off. Shouldn't even have tried to run errands with her I guess.

  • @k2k2tog Ohh poor pup. Hope he’s feeling better soon. Maybe this is a sign you should do absolutely nothing tomorrow and just relax!

  • @secicc12 thanks for the support! DH is just way more rational than I am so he jumped right to the "we'll do what we want" phase while I was still in the anger phase lol if it feels like the right name, we will probably still use it.
  • @poshspice ugh colds are the worst, hopefully you feel better soon! My sister and nephew both have colds and I've spent so much time with them lately so I'm just waiting to come down with a cold too.

@sagems10 I'm sorry to hear that about your name, so frustrating because you know they had no idea when they chose it but I'd be upset too if you if you had your heart set on using it. I'd probably still use it though, I've had cousins who's kids have the same name and nobody thought it was weird at all

DH and I went to a baseball game yesterday, took the train into the city and did a ton of walking. I'm such an idiot because I wore new shoes and today my feet are covered in blisters and it hurts to walk :( Despite destroying my feet, it was still really fun! I tried chicken and waffles for the first time too and I can't believe how amazing they are, why have I never tried them before?!
    k2k2tog
  • @sagems10 I would be upset too about the name, even if it was not intentional. It seems like between our friends and family most of our top name picks have already been taken.

  • @sagems10 that sucks, but I personally could not name my baby the exact same thing as my cousin's baby... it would just be too weird. Even though you thought of it on your own, unless it's to honor a mutual relative, I would find a different name.

I'm a teacher, and this year I have two students who have names that are on the list of contenders for boys... I'm seriously hoping that having them in class won't ruin the few names DH and I both kind-of like.
